Meet Kalyn Bell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kalyn Bell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kalyn , thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
I think it is important as business owners that we set aside time for our personal lives. Such as rest days, social events with our friends and family (not business related), or self-care/reset days. If you find it hard to set aside time for yourself, try to schedule it in your calendar. Allowing yourself to feel burnt out will take the fun out of running your company.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own a social media marketing agency! I help business owners create and grow their social presence. I understand that running a business takes a lot of time and energy, social media should not be taking up all of your time. Time is money.

The most exciting part is seeing the results on my client’s accounts. Watching their brand grow from the strategies I have implemented is my favorite part of the job. When you create brand recognition and new relationships online, that leads to new faces coming in the door!

I just recently launched my new coaching service! This allows people to “pick my brain” about questions they may have. Or help them generate ideas that they can implement themselves until they are ready to commit to an agency.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say the three qualities that were the most impactful in my journey would be confidence, creativity, and ambition. You HAVE to be confident in the work you are providing. The rest of the qualities will fall into place once you have confidence in yourself.

My advice for everyone early in their journey would be to work on their imposter syndrome first. A majority of people suffer from this. Imposter syndrome is a condition of feeling self-doubt about skills or accomplishments. If the opportunity comes your way, you are ready to tackle it and it is meant to be. You earned it!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I love the book Atomic Habits. It was shown to me by a highly qualified individual in my industry. This book talks about how to change your daily habits and be 1% better every day. The book goes over simple ways to break your old habits and build new ones. It is a great book to take notes over and keep your thoughts written inside. I attached a note from the Atomic Habits book I follow: How to create a good habit:

The 1st law (Cue): Make it obvious.

The 2nd law (Craving): Make it attractive.

The 3rd law (Response): Make it easy.

The 4th law (Reward): Make it satisfying.

How to break a bad habit:

Inversion of the 1st law (Cue): Make it invisible.

Inversion of the 2nd law (Craving): Make it unattractive.

Inversion of the 3rd law (Response): Make it difficult.

Inversion of the 4th law (Reward): Make it unsatisfying.

I also focus on a lot of journal prompts I find to keep the goals I have insight into. I think it is easier to accomplish your goals when you consistently see them visually and are reminded every day of why you are working so hard.

Ignoring the Naysayers

Almost everything that’s changed the world in a positive way has been an unreasonable idea.

What were the conditions that allowed you to develop your empathy?
