We were lucky to catch up with Kalynn Fuller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kalynn, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
The moment I gained my confidence and self-esteem was the moment I accepted that I will not be everyone’s cup of tea.
I used to spend a lot of my energy trying to please each person crossing my path. So much of my time and effort was spent considering what other people would think about the way I lived my life.
When I let go of the false need to people please, it made room for my self confidence to flourish. Because, at the end of the day, if I am being the most authentic me possible, pleasing my inner me, that is the deepest root of self-esteem.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello! My name is Kalynn Fuller. I am a creator currently living in the Twin Cities. Behind all my work, I strive to be a storylistener and a storyteller. I believe that in order to tell a good story one must first listen to a good story.
I listen and tell through photography, film, social media design and strategy, content creation, poetry, memoir, and screenwriting.
A current project I’m on is screenwriting for the 100 Pages Movie–a project where 100 screenwriters are set out to write 1 epic film as cinema’s first-ever collaborative written masterpiece. I am incredibly excited about the creativity being poured into this project, and I would love for you to follow along! @1oopagesmovie
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three skills that have been the most impactful for me on my creative journey are:
1. Networking. Everyone is truly connected by a few degrees. Never burn bridges with anyone. And someone will remember you by the way you make them feel (Did you make them feel heard? Seen? Do they want to continue the discussion?).
2. Discipline in creating every day. And to create just for you–not just for the world. So much outward wonder and creativity comes from a process that has been seen by few.
3. Be bold. Speak up (in a respectful manner). Put yourself out there. Lean into the passions you’ve been gifted with.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, yes, the answer is always yes. What I look for in collaborative partners are individuals who are driven, kind, and share the same creative values.
