Meet Kamen Ross

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kamen Ross. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kamen, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Creativity flickers, and that’s OK.

People liken inspiration to fire all the time, and I think that’s apt. It’s like a tiny flame that starts with a spark, burns bright, and eventually goes out. In its short life, it can light up the room or it can burn a forest down. Passion works that way, too. Destruction is a beautiful but dangerous part of creativity. I feel like if you’re always chasing it and giving it fuel, you can neglect other beautiful and delicate parts of your life. I keep my creativity alive by finding peace in the moments between inspiration, being OK with balance, not striving so ambitiously that I forget to live.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I create and orchestrate unique musical events inspired by theater and nature, whether it comes to throwing a Lion King party with a rock band or shredding piano in the middle of the woods. I’m chiefly inspired by the wilderness, and channel everything from windstorms to wolf howls into my compositions.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. It doesn’t matter if you’re talented if you’re not having fun.

2. Traditions don’t automatically deserve respect, especially if they harm us.

3. Love is a skill. Practice focusing on what you like about the world.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

Despair!

It takes a lot of practice to remain aware of how dark the world can get without giving up. The older I get, the more I understand how I can’t take anything for granted. There is true horror here; absolute unfairness; terrible cruelty; real evil. It’s easy to throw up your hands and wonder “why try?”; I certainly don’t have the answer. But I know that life seems more worth living when I throw my soul into music and art.
