We recently connected with Kamila Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamila, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
I’ve experienced burnout firsthand, and it’s something I think most mental health therapists face at some point. For me, it hit when I realized I was running on empty and not showing up as my best self or enjoying my work with the same passion. I had to take a step back and give myself permission to take several days off to get back to basics and focus on my own care.
During that time, I really went inward. One of the most impactful things I did was read Burnout by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski. That book was a game-changer for me. It dives into the societal pressures, the unique challenges of being in a female body, and how those factors contribute to nervous system dysregulation. It helped me understand why I was feeling the way I was and gave me tools to start addressing it.
Initially, I focused on attending to my basic needs—resting, nourishing my body, and reconnecting with the things that bring me joy. But I knew I needed more sustainable strategies, so I began incorporating longer-term mindfulness practices, and energy healing centered on nervous system regulation. I continue to recommend all of these practices to my clients.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of releasing stress from my body rather than holding onto it. Whether it’s through movement, breathwork, or simply allowing myself to fully process emotions, I’ve found ways to let go of the heaviness and avoid carrying stressors with me.
Now, I prioritize these practices as part of my daily life, not just when I feel burned out. It’s made a world of difference, both in how I show up for myself and for my clients.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve been practicing as a marriage and family therapist for nearly a decade, and opening a wellness center has been a dream of mine for many years. Throughout my work with clients, I noticed a recurring challenge: many were stuck in fight-or-flight responses due to trauma or anxiety, making it difficult to engage in deeper talk therapy work. To address this, I began incorporating grounding exercises and somatic practices to help clients reconnect with their bodies before diving into complex therapeutic processes. Over time, I found myself recommending complementary therapies like massage, acupuncture, yoga, movement, and energy healing—modalities that support a holistic mind-body-soul approach to healing. That’s when the vision for Achelois Holistic Wellness began to take shape.
Achelois, named after the moon goddess whose name means “she who washes away pain,” is a sanctuary for healing and empowerment. Our mission is to provide a space where individuals feel safe, supported, and celebrated on their journey to holistic well-being. As the founder, I’ve intentionally designed our center with a trauma-informed lens, focusing on nervous system regulation and offering an integrative array of services including mental health therapy, sound healing, reiki, biofield tuning, yoga, Pilates, workshops, and community events.
What sets Achelois apart is that it is the only wellness center in the area founded and led by a mental health therapist. We take pride in bridging the gap between modern therapeutic practices and ancient healing modalities, creating a truly comprehensive wellness experience. Our compassionate team is deeply aligned with our mission to empower individuals to live authentically and confidently while embracing balance and wholeness.
This winter, we’re thrilled to continue expanding our offerings with events like Embrace the Stillness, our first-ever Winter Solstice Hibernation Festival, which focuses on rest, renewal, and seasonal mindfulness. Additionally, in January, we’ll host Puppies and Pilates—a lighthearted and grounding event perfect for Minnesota winters. These gatherings exemplify our commitment to creating a warm, inviting space for connection and healing during even the coldest months.
Achelois Holistic Wellness isn’t just about wellness—it’s about transformation. Whether you’re stepping into a yoga class, navigating life’s challenges in therapy, or joining a workshop that feeds your soul, you’re becoming part of a community rooted in growth, care, and empowerment. Here, we invite you to bloom where you heal.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are self-compassion, self-care, and empowerment. These weren’t always strengths of mine, but learning to embrace and cultivate them has made all the difference in working as a therapist and building Achelois Holistic Wellness.
1. Self-Compassion: Early on in my journey, I struggled with perfectionism and self-criticism, but learning to approach mistakes and challenges with compassion and alternative self talk, helped me move forward rather than getting stuck. My advice? Practice self-compassion by treating yourself the way you’d treat a close friend. Reflect on your progress rather than fixating on what’s not perfect.
2. Self-Care: It’s impossible to pour from an empty cup. Prioritizing self-care—whether through movement, mindfulness, energy healing, or moments of stillness—has been essential to my well-being and ability to show up for others. There were times I overextended myself and burned out, but I’ve learned that caring for myself is crucial. My advice? Start small. Incorporate simple, consistent practices like a self check in each time you go to the bathroom, journaling, or even just taking five deep breaths while washing the dishes.
3. Empowerment: For me, empowerment has been about reclaiming my voice and trusting my intuition to create the path I envisioned even when questioning myself.,My advice? Cultivate empowerment by setting intentions aligned with your values, learning to advocate for yourself, and finding your community. Empowerment grows when you take ownership of your journey and believe that you have the ability to make meaningful change—not just for yourself, but for others as well.
For anyone starting their journey, remember: it’s okay to be a work in progress. Embrace self-compassion, prioritize self-care, and seek empowerment by staying connected to your values and purpose. Trust yourself and the path you’re creating—you’re capable of more than you realize.

How would you describe your ideal client?
The ideal client for Achelois Holistic Wellness is someone seeking a deeper, more integrative approach to their well-being. They are someone that has tried conventional therapies but would like a more comprehensive holistic approach. They are curious, and ready to explore the connection between their mind, body, and soul. They may feel stuck in patterns of stress, anxiety, or overwhelm, and are looking for a safe, supportive space to heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves.
Our ideal client is often navigating a major life transition, recovering from trauma, or simply feeling the need for greater balance and alignment in their life. They value holistic and trauma-informed care, and they’re drawn to the blend of modern therapeutic practices and ancient healing modalities we offer such as energy healing, working with crystals, herbs, sound and more. They might seek mental health therapy, but also feel inspired to explore complementary practices like yoga, sound healing, reiki, or restorative workshops to address their needs more fully.
Above all, the ideal client for Achelois is someone who believes in their ability to heal and transform, even if they don’t yet see the full path ahead. They’re seeking not just relief from pain, but empowerment, growth, and a renewed sense of self. At Achelois, they’ll find a compassionate community and resources to support every step of their journey.
