We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kamille Brooks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamille, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I remember when I was younger always asking my mom to go out to McDonalds. However, I also remember that she never ate when I did. Soon after I learned that she couldn’t afford to have McDonalds with me and that we were barely getting by. During these tough financial times we had so many people that were helping us and doing small things that made a big difference. I told myself that I would never want anyone to feel the way I felt and I vowed to give back whenever I can!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I will be leaving for Howard University in just a few days and starting my junior year at 18 years old!
I will also be competing in the Miss District of Columbia Teen Volunteer pageant 2025.
I am constantly volunteering at any event that I can attend and visiting sponsors. I host events and meetings to help grow the community and educate others on the importance of mental health.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Stalwart. The definition is loyal, reliable, and hardworking. These three qualities can get you far in life! No matter what you do or where you are, if you maintain these qualities you will grow and help those around you grow.
The best advice I could give to someone trying to achieve the idea of being stalwart, is to seek someone who embodies it and take after them. Just like kids; when you watch someone else do something, you will be able to reciprocate that. Follow the leader!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I give all glory to God. He has helped me through good times and hard times and I couldn’t do it without him. When I found love in Jesus, I found myself. The lord brings out the best qualities in people. I suggest that everyone develops a relationship with the lord and better themselves!
