Meet Kangel Quynh

We recently connected with Kangel Quynh and have shared our conversation below.

Kangel, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

As a Vietnamese-American woman who immigrated to the U.S. when I was just 4 years old, I’ve always had to navigate spaces where I didn’t always see someone who looked like me in. As a small business owner, I’ve learned to embrace my uniqueness and use it as my strength. I’ve always believed that authenticity is key. Being blonde and wearing a lot of pink may set me apart in the room, but it’s also a reflection of who I truly am—someone who’s unapologetically herself, and who’s proud of being a woman.

In terms of being effective and successful, I’ve had to stay grounded in my vision and trust my instincts. I’ve focused on building genuine relationships with clients and showing up with confidence. In my journey, I’ve learned that people are drawn to authenticity, and the best way to create trust and respect is by being true to who you are. And even though I may be the only one in the room who looks like me, I’ve always reminded myself that I belong here—my perspective, my experience, and my culture add value to the conversation and the work that I do. It’s about leading with heart, working hard, and letting my passion for beauty shine through.

I believe in the power of my divine feminine energy—being intuitive, compassionate, and strong. It’s what allows me to connect with people on a deeper level, especially when I’m the only one in the room who looks like me. I encourage others to do the same: Be unapologetically yourself. There’s no one else in the room who has your story, your experiences, or your perspective, and that’s what makes you valuable.

So even when I’m the only one like me in the room, I know I belong—and that’s the energy I want to share with everyone I meet. After all, true value lies far beyond appearances—never judge a book by its cover!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

By owning Kangel Beauty, I’ve had the privilege of helping people feel more confident and beautiful since 2019. I specialize in aesthetic injections, a recent addition to my practice, and I absolutely love how it allows me to enhance my clients’ natural features. For me, beauty isn’t just skin deep—it’s about empowering people to embrace their true selves and feel their best from the inside out.

What makes my work so special is the connection I build with each client. I treat everyone like family, getting to know their unique needs and making sure they feel comfortable and heard. It’s not just about the treatments, but about creating a space where they feel safe, understood, and celebrated. I truly believe that confidence radiates from within, and my goal is to enhance the beauty that’s already there, not change it. Whether it’s a subtle tweak or a more transformative look, I love highlighting what makes each person uniquely beautiful.

My brand is centered around authenticity, compassion, and empowerment. I want every person who walks through my door to feel special, knowing that they’re in a space where they can relax and be themselves. Beauty is about more than just appearance—it’s about embracing who you are and feeling good in your own skin. I’m here to support that journey, offering a personal touch that makes every client feel like they’re part of my extended family. It’s a joy to continue growing my business while helping others shine with confidence and grace.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are passion, resilience, and professionalism.

Passion has been at the heart of everything I do. It’s what drives me to constantly improve and stay committed, even when things get tough. When you’re passionate about your work, it doesn’t feel like a chore—it’s something you wake up excited to do. For those early in their journey, my advice is to stay connected to the “why” behind what you’re doing. Find what excites you and let that passion fuel your drive. Passion will give you the energy and motivation to keep going, even during challenging times.

Resilience has been essential in overcoming the obstacles I’ve faced. The journey hasn’t always been smooth, but being able to bounce back from setbacks, learn from them, and keep moving forward has been critical to my success. For anyone just starting out, my advice would be to expect challenges—they’re part of the process. When things don’t go as planned, take a step back, reflect, and adjust. Resilience is about staying focused on your goals and not letting failures define you. The ability to adapt and keep going will set you apart.

Lastly, professionalism has been key in building trust and credibility with my clients. Maintaining high standards in the way I work, communicate, and handle situations has helped me gain respect in my field. To those starting out, I recommend always striving for excellence in every interaction, whether it’s with clients, colleagues, or in the way you present yourself. Professionalism is about being reliable, respectful, and maintaining integrity in everything you do. It’s a quality that will help you build lasting relationships and a solid reputation.

For anyone out there, my advice would be to cultivate these qualities consistently. Passion will keep you going, resilience will help you grow, and professionalism will build your reputation. Stay committed to developing these traits, and you’ll set yourself up for success.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to challenge me to follow my own path. While they wanted me to pursue the traditional route of education, their lack of support for my career choice forced me to rely on my own willpower and determination. It pushed me to truly believe in myself and my dreams, even when no one else did. This experience sharpened me in ways I never expected—it taught me that I can do anything in life with the strength of my own will and the courage to follow my heart. Their resistance became the fuel that drove me forward, helping me build the resilience and self-confidence I needed to succeed on my own terms.
