Hi Kangel, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care is more than just a occasional spa day or a rare vacation. It’s about making a daily commitment to nourish your mind, body, and soul. Without good health, all other achievements are meaningless.
In the early days of my career, I was guilty of pushing myself too hard and working long hours without proper care for my well-being. I believed that sacrificing my health was a fair trade-off for success. However, a close call with death taught me that a successful career is meaningless without good health.
To prioritize my well-being, I started by hiring a personal trainer who taught me how to give my body the proper nutrition it needed and confidence in my work out routines. I now strive to wake up early in the mornings everyday to hit the gym, which boosts my energy and productivity. Additionally, I learned to set boundaries with clients and take time off when I needed to recharge. Understanding and prioritizing my own health has been vital for my long-term success.
Remember, your body is your temple, and your health is of utmost importance. Nurture it, and it will reward you with success. Trust that the right clients will understand and value your well-being.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Kangel Beauty has undergone a transformation since its establishment in 2018. From aspiring to be a makeup artist to now being a senior lash artist with a thriving salon suite, the journey has been one of self-discovery and fulfillment. With a passion for art and a natural talent, I’ve been able to express my creativity through the intricate and delicate process of applying eyelash extensions. My clients are essentially wearing my art on their eyes, and it’s so rewarding when they tell me how much they love their lashes.
With four years of experience in the eyelash extension industry, I am so excited to share their knowledge and skills with others through small group trainings and one-on-one sessions. Committed to being a valuable resource for beginner lash artists, Kangel Beauty is dedicated to providing quality education and support. I am also working on launching my own product line, with plans for expansion in 2024, making this just the beginning of an exciting future.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
An entrepreneur needs initiative, confidence, and discipline to succeed on their journey. Initiative refers to taking the first step and being proactive in seeking opportunities. Confidence is crucial in believing in oneself and their ideas, and the ability to persuade others to support them. Discipline is necessary to stay focused, prioritize tasks and achieve goals.
Advice for those early on in their entrepreneurial journey is to cultivate these three qualities. Start by setting clear and achievable goals, and breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who believe in you and your vision. And, be disciplined in your approach, whether it’s through time management, following a budget, or staying focused on your end goal. With these qualities and a positive attitude, anyone can become a successful entrepreneur.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
As an entrepreneur, feeling complacent and stagnant can be a major challenge. To overcome this, I’ve learned to give myself grace and prioritize self-care. The pandemic was a turning point for me, as my job was deemed non-essential and I had to go into survival mode with my finances. I was at the pinnacle of my career, and it came to an abrupt halt. But when I was able to reopen my salon, I worked diligently to build a network of loyal clients and establish a reputation as one of the top lash artists in Houston.
Despite my success, the entrepreneurial spirit within me often leads to feelings of greed and restlessness. But I’ve come to realize that being content doesn’t mean being complacent, having high expectations for myself isn’t greed, and taking time to rest is essential for motivation.
I’ve learned to strike a balance between working hard and enjoying the fruits of my labor. Life is short, and I don’t want to miss out on the people and experiences that truly matter to me. I realized that the hustle and bustle will always be there for me to conquer. The people that I cherish the most will not.
