We recently connected with Kaprice Dearing and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaprice , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
My name is Kaprice Dearing. My boyfriend Randy Clements and I are co-owners of Crazy Town cooking. Randy and I got together about a year and a half ago. When we met we were both working at Denny’s. He was a cook and I was a server. We had both recently gotten out of complicated relationships. In the beginning as we were getting to know each other we soon realized that we were both entrepreneurs. We spent many hours discussing different businesses and opportunity ideas. And then with all of our experience in the restaurant business over the years we decided to open a food truck. I continued to work at Denny’s and he got a job welding. When we both got off work and we doordashed. We saved every penny we made for about 3 months. Then we turned around and outright bought a food trailer. Then we traded in our Bronco for a 2025 Chevy Silverado to pull the trailer. Not even knowing at this point if we were going to be able to make the payment. Talk about super scary. Then we both up and quit our jobs. Not even sure if this was going to work. I’m pretty sure our friends and family thought we were crazy. But we believed in ourselves and we believed in each other. We knew together we could make anything happen. Our business opened May 3rd of 2025. We haven’t even been open for 1 year yet and we have been much more successful than we had anticipated at this point. I’m not going to lie it’s the scariest risk we had ever taken. Not like we had much to lose, but if it didn’t work we would have lost everything. It just goes to show if you believe it can happen and you speak it into existence. It will happen. None of this would have been possible without all the support from all of our family friends and followers. And I thank God everyday. It’s true what they say. Can’t force anything to happen. It always happens when God’s ready.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
We have a mobile food truck named Crazy Town cooking. We are locally from Roswell New Mexico. We sell smash burgers, loaded Gourmet dogs, loaded fries and much more. We are known for our bacon green chili smashburger, our Mexi dog, and our loaded buffalo chicken bacon ranch fries. We travel within the state of New Mexico for different events. We are also available for caterings. To me the most exciting thing about owning a food truck is the fact that we work for ourselves. We are in control of when we work and where we work. I also enjoy the fact that we get to travel. We’ve met many interesting people over the last several months. Our food is amazing and I love seeing our customers reaction to our food. It’s delicious and I love to share that with people. One of my goals as a business owner of Crazy Town cooking is to win the number one green chili cheeseburger in the state of New Mexico. As the company grows we plan to invest in other opportunities such as real estate. We are both excited to see what the future holds.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the three most important qualities that we both possess are the fact that we both worked in the restaurant industry for 30 plus years. Serving, managing, and cooking. Randy has passed experience in owning and operate other businesses and I spent several years helping my dad operate his small business. then there’s the fact that we are both very motivated, goal-oriented, and unstoppable. Failing and giving up was never an option for either one of us I am also very confident and have great social and communication skills. Definitely a social butterfly and a people person. The best advice I have to give someone that is in the beginning of their Journey as a small business owner is to do your research, never give up, and always be willing to learn and try new things. And you got to be open to social media. That is apparently the number one marketing method out there. That’s the one skill I wish I had more knowledge of..

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would have to say that my partner, family, friends, followers and fellow food truck owners have all played an essential key part in helping us make this business successful. My daughters have helped me learn social media on the Fly. My Partners strength and confidence gives me confidence and security as well. Most of the food truck owners we have come across over the last several months have been very helpful with any questions, concerns or advice that we’ve had regarding , work, permits, and etc. Then we get all of our feedback, comments, likes, and shares from all of our followers and customers which also helps us to do our best. I love reading the comments and reviews from our customers. We have great food and we enjoy the great feedback we get. So therefore I feel like everyone has helped us overcome our challenges and build our business.
