Meet Kara Beatty

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kara Beatty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kara below.

Kara, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Being a photographer was always a dream. I knew I loved it at a young age and eventually found my way into photography in my adult years. It wasn’t until 2021 when my mom passed away unexpectedly that my vision and purpose really came into focus. Although preserving memories for families was always important to me, it wasn’t until going through the trauma that comes with grief did I realize just how essential it is to document your journey through life with photography. It isn’t just about memories for you to reflect on but also what you leave behind for your loved ones. There will never be enough pictures to go through to bring back those moments with my mom. I want to give that gift to others. Life is unpredictable and you never know when those moments will mean more than we can comprehend.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am visual storyteller that documents your journey through images. I try to create an environment where clients feel comfortable and be themselves. The most cherished images are the real, authentic moments captured. It can be the yawn of a newborn, little ones just being able to play and interact with their parents, a snuggle caught in between poses, or a conversation that evokes laughter. I offer studio and outdoor sessions. My studio sessions can be described as simple, classic and clean. My outdoor sessions are typically during golden hour to get that glow we all love! Although I typically target Newborns, Maternity and Family Sessions, I refuse to completely niche down. It helps me on my toes and from getting burnout. I do weddings on occasion, as well as senior sessions!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had any advice for someone starting out, it would be to persevere through the times it feels too hard. To push yourself out of your comfort zone because it is where you will do your most growing. Also, to learn as much as you can. Find training in the area you are wanting to grow in. When you feel you have mastered that area, pick another area to grow in. Never stop learning!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is a lover of memories. My clients cherish time and how fleeting it is. They love simple, clean images that really focus on them. They love to laugh, joke, and have fun. They understand that not every photo session with little ones will be perfect but embrace their littles personalities at the stage they are in. We could totally be friend if they understand my sense of humor is like a cross of Chandler Bing of Friends and Lorelai from Gilmore Girls!
