Meet Kara Snowden

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kara Snowden. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kara , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?

I used to struggle with writer’s block a lot in college, especially when I started writing seriously. One day I asked one of my professors for advice, and she told me, “writer’s block doesn’t exist.” When I asked what she meant, she explained that the brain is always working—it just sometimes needs to go on input before we can output. Once she said that, a whole new way of writing opened up for me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a singer-songwriter with my own artist project under KARA, but lately I’ve been writing a lot for others and producing as well. Right now, I’m one half of a writer-producer duo called KAZO, where we focus on creating music for other artists. We’ve been working on a ton of material together, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the projects we’ve got coming out!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities I’ve found most impactful are confidence, open-mindedness, and collaboration. My advice to anyone starting out is to take that leap off the cliff you’ve been standing on for too long. You’ll never know if you can succeed until you’ve tried at least three times. The first jump, your wings might not catch and you’ll stumble—but if you keep getting back up, eventually you’ll learn to fly.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

I’d spend that decade surrounded by close friends and family, writing music for others, and mentoring new writers—sharing what I’ve learned and giving them the opportunities I once wished I had while chasing my own path in the music business.
