We were lucky to catch up with Karen Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karen, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Mental health is a subject that I feel strongly about. I think it is important for people to realize that it is okay to express their feelings, to vent, and to find an outlet in life. Photography has always been my outlet to help me overcome battling anything that I have been dealing with. It is my moment in time to get behind the camera, and do what I do best. A time to forget all my problems for the moment, and let the weight off my shoulders.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Karen, but most people refer to me as KD. I have been doing photography since 2018. I have shot mostly sports photography. Most of my time has been spent on the sideline; anywhere from arena, semi pro, little league, and even a couple of high school games. I have shot a some personal photography, and look to do more in the future. I even shot my first wedding in September of last year.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My areas of advice to anyone early on in their journey would be:
Number one always be receptive to feedback good and bad.
Number two always remain positive. Times will get tough during your journey but you have to remain positive and focused.
Number three always network and use your resources because you never know where it can lead you, or who it can lead you to.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth the past 12 months is taking a step back to take more time for myself. More time to destress and focus on my own mental health.
