Meet Karen Dougherty

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karen Dougherty. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Karen, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

My commitment to self-discipline stems from a desire to maintain control over my own health and wellness along with setting a good example and helping others. I’ve found that a consistent routine of nutritious eating and regular exercise is key to addressing potential health concerns. The actual benefits of this lifestyle include: a stable mental state, enhanced physical and emotional well-being, improved self-esteem, regulated sleep and digestive patterns, and reduced discomfort and pain with increased mobility.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

With over three decades of experience in providing fitness training to both groups and individual clients, I am thrilled to introduce an online dimension to my training services. My specialized transformation programs cater to the needs of the busy mature women, focusing on movement without pain in a nurturing and non-intimidating environment. My personal journey of thirteen years of sustained sobriety, after overcoming a challenging relapse, has empowered me to develop a unique program. This forthcoming 60 Day Transformation Program is meticulously crafted to support women transitioning from treatment facilities or those seeking assistance in their sober recovery and health. I am SO excited to share this program because it promises profound benefits for all participants.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1) Lifelong Learner: My commitment to continuous education and professional development is so important. I take learning seriously, consistently seeking to expand my knowledge and skills. This dedication not only sets me apart but also ensures that I remain at the forefront of my field of Fitness.
2) Resilience and Consistency: I embody perseverance, maintaining steadfastness in my personal training, Sobriety, and business endeavors, even during challenging times.
3) Empathetic Listener: I understand the importance of listening to others, recognizing that people often communicate their needs and identities openly. My attentive listening skills enable me to respond effectively and provide support where it’s needed most.

Additionally, my ability to infuse fun into my work and be a source of positivity makes me a magnet for those seeking guidance, especially during difficult times. My cheerful disposition serves as a beacon of hope, attracting clients and creating a supportive community around my services.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

I’m elated that I’ve finally started on this exciting journey to be an online Fitness and wellness trainer! I am finally getting to lead group classes and work with people one-on-one, right through their screens. However, it’s been quite a learning curve and even though I’ve had some great help along the way, investing in this dream is a big step for me, especially with the costs involved. But I believe it’s worth it. Whether it all goes as planned or not, I’m just happy to give it my best shot. I think it’s important to try, even when it’s a bit scary, because that’s how we grow.
