We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karen Mehanna a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Karen , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from the trials of life and my faith in God, which assures me that things will ultimately work out. Living through wars has instilled in me the mentality of “get up, pick up, and move forward,” as I believe that the only way is forward. Along this journey, I have learned and honed my craft, starting with small favors for events and gradually expanding to include hair accessories and outfits for mothers and their little ones. A significant turning point in my creative journey was designing and styling my daughter’s wedding, which I have now incorporated into my brand. This evolution not only showcases my creativity and adaptability but also reflects the personal and emotional connections I have to my work. Each experience contributes not only to my personal growth but also to the resilience that fuels my passion and purpose in my endeavors.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My journey has been shaped by a series of moves between Lebanon and the U.S., both of which I consider my homes—Lebanon as my nurturing mother and the U.S. as my partner in this ongoing journey. I have experienced a full circle, immersing myself in the world of design in various formats, particularly in events and weddings. Each year, I would create themed birthday celebrations for my children, starting with favors for their friends and classmates. After moving to the U.S., I took on full-time work to support my children through school and university, but when we returned to Lebanon, I reconnected with my passion by designing hair accessories and decor for special occasions. The pinnacle of this journey was designing and coordinating my daughter’s wedding, which reignited my creative spark and led to more wedding projects. Upon moving back to the U.S. again, a friend encouraged me to coordinate weddings professionally, and I jumped at the opportunity. Now, I am branching out on my own, excited to create memorable experiences for future brides and their events, and I look forward to expanding my services even further to bring more beauty and joy to celebrations.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as particularly impactful: faith, a commitment to learning, and a deep love for the art of design. My faith and belief in my ability to create are foundational, as I see my design skills as a gift from the Lord. Equally important is my relentless pursuit of knowledge; I consistently take courses to enhance my skills and stay updated in my field. Lastly, my passion for design fuels everything I do, driving me to create with joy and love. For those who are early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate these qualities—maintain your faith in your gifts, embrace a mindset of continuous learning, and nurture your love for your craft. Remember that perseverance is key; challenges will arise, but if you can learn from them and keep moving forward, you will find fulfillment and success. If what you do brings you joy and adds a smile to your life, you will ultimately reach your goals.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As I embark on my journey in the event designing business, collaboration is essential to creating exceptional experiences. I am actively looking to connect with event planners, DIY brides and their partners, moms who are designing events for their children, as well as photographers, florists, and venues to expand my network and enhance my offerings. If you are interested in collaborating, I would love to hear from you; please feel free to reach out to me through my website or social media. Together, we can create memorable events that bring joy and celebration to life!
