Meet Karen Nunez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karen Nunez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Karen, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from a blend of experiences and cultures that have shaped who I am today. Growing up in Venezuela, a country rich in vibrancy and resilience itself, instilled in me a deep sense of perseverance and adaptability. Traveling and living in various countries, including Australia and now Italy, exposed me to diverse perspectives and challenges, further strengthening my resilience. However, my ultimate wellspring of resilience lies in my passion for my fashion brand—it’s not just a business, but my love and my baby. Every setback fuels my determination to succeed, knowing that I’m creating something deeply personal and meaningful.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a Venezuelan woman in her 40s who relocated to Florence, Italy six years ago, I draw upon my multicultural background and experiences to lead my own fashion brand. Inspired by the vibrant colors of the Caribbean and fueled by a deep longing for home, I founded my brand nearly three years ago. Despite the challenges of starting a business in a new country, my passion and dedication drive me forward. With each design, I weave together elements of my diverse journey, infusing my creations with a unique blend of cultural influences. My role is not just that of a business owner; it’s a manifestation of my love for fashion and my commitment to sharing the beauty of my heritage with the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful:

Resilience: I learn from setbacks, I keep a positive mindset, and I build a supportive network.

Creativity: I embrace experimentation, I take risks, and stay open-minded.

Cultural awareness: I Immerse myself in diverse cultures, I respect differences, and celebrate diversity.

For those early in their journey

– Cultivate resilience by embracing challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth.
– Nurture your creativity through exploration, experimentation, and exposure to new ideas and experiences.
– Foster cultural awareness by seeking out diverse perspectives and learning from people of different backgrounds.

Remember that success is not linear and that perseverance, creativity, and cultural sensitivity are essential ingredients for long-term success in any creative endeavor. Stay true to yourself, stay curious, and never stop learning and growing.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The main challenge I’m facing is adapting to a new culture and language. To overcome this, I’ take language classes and seek advice from locals to better understand the customs and business practices. By learning and adapting, I aim to integrate smoothly into my environment.
