We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karen Ramirez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karen below.
Karen, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity I feel comes in different ways. Art, music, emotions and thought processing. I write my ideas down, always. It could be 5am waking up, or midday bathroom break… I can vision something new for my business, so I take notes on my phone. If I can hop on it immediately, the better.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Absolutely! I am Karen, a now 30 year old hispanic nail artist in Phoenix, Az. I am the oldest of four, proudly born in Chihuahua, Mexico. Starting my business was not anything planned if Im being honest, it just came as an opportunity and I took it. Through Covid, the fact the nailshop was closed was a nerve wreck. After gathering equipment for the purpose of my own use, I received requests for services via social media. I went for it! Through trial and error, here we are…focusing on improving and learning day by day… to grow. My goal is to sooner than later open a shop, where multiple beauty industry services will be offered.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Well there is definitely more than 3. Some of the 3 important things for me would be the consistency, the motivation to try everyday, and the willingness to learn to continue progressing and perfecting. My advice would be… learn, learn and learn some more. There is so many ways to so many things. Your way isnt always the easiest or fastest. Explore alternatives and choose what works best for you.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Lose my fears. Id do so by trying out everything ive been scared of. Due to the limited time, I wouldnt overthink the results of situations, and just do it.
Ive always faced a fear of change. I could fear change positively one day and another negative. For example, I cant seem to resign my fulltime job and dedicate 100% of myself to my small business. I overthink my volume of clientele or I could some days doubt my own work. Its hard and stressing to think!
