Meet Karent Sierra

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karent Sierra a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Karent with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic definitely came from my parents. They taught me to be responsible and to have discipline in everything that I do.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I have been practicing dentistry for 25 years and my specialty is aesthetic dentistry where I have had the opportunity to transform many smiles from normal people to celebrities and singers. Thanks to my profession, I also felt the urge to want to give back, being that I feel I have been so blessed to have my education and many other things that we may take for granted, like having food to eat or a roof over my head, In 2009, I started my Sharing Smiles Foundation, where I offer free dentistry to underprivileged families here locally in Miami and also throughout the world. We have been twice to Kenya, twice to India, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela, and just recently came back from Zambia where we treated over 600 people and also built 20 water wells throughout the country.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Be Willing to Look at Your Shadow
The parts that you suppress or avoid are often where your greatest potential for growth lies. Have the courage to confront the uncomfortable—the fears, limiting beliefs, and pattern. Real transformation begins when you bring those shadows into the light. It takes you closer to your authentic sense.

Advice: Create time for introspection and feel comfortable asking questions such as, “Why do I do this?”

2. Be Ready to Let Go of Old Stories
We all carry stories about what happened to us, and sometimes those stories become an unconscious script that keeps us where we don’t want to be. Your goal is to rewrite those scripts so you can shift from what happened to you to growing and being a stronger and wiser person because of it.

Advice: Start noticing how you frame your experiences. Ask yourself: Are these stories empowering or keeping me stuck? Practices like hypnotherapy can help you release emotional baggage and make reframes for new, empowering perspectives.

3. Be Committed to the Process of Growing and Evolving
True growth isn’t a one-time event—it’s a continuous process. To do that, you will need to fully commit to yourself.

Advice: You may have people around you who are not interested in self-development. Surround yourself with mentors or coaches who inspire you to keep evolving. Growth happens in layers, so keep at it.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, my first instinct is to reconnect with a divine power. For me, it’s a reminder that I don’t have to carry everything alone. Years ago, I realized that the need to be in control of every outcome is an illusion—it’s exhausting and unsustainable. Trying to force solutions or hold on too tightly only adds to the pressure. Learning to surrender and trust a higher power has become one of the most grounding practices in my life.

In most situations, the best thing you can do is focus on what’s within your control, take meaningful action where you can, and then release the rest. It’s about understanding that there’s wisdom and timing beyond what we can see or understand. Letting go doesn’t mean giving up—it means trusting that things are unfolding exactly as they should, even when it feels messy or uncertain.
