Meet Kari Rehnlund

We recently connected with Kari Rehnlund and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kari with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Both Lauren and Kari come from humble, hardworking backgrounds, shaped by the values instilled in them by their families. Their work ethic is deeply rooted in the examples set by their parents and family history. While both are immensely grateful for the opportunities and lessons they’ve been given, they were also taught from a young age that achieving goals requires determination and perseverance.

Lauren grew up watching her mother hustle daily as a realtor in the fast-paced 90s, learning the importance of grit and adaptability. Kari, inspired by her father’s entrepreneurial spirit and multiple business ventures, developed a drive to create something meaningful.

Tied & Two has always been more than just a business—it’s a labor of love, built on the foundation of passion, resilience, and the belief that hard work truly pays off. Along the way, we’ve also embraced the ability to pivot, adapt, and problem-solve, understanding that these skills are essential to turning challenges into opportunities and ensuring our continued growth and success.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Here’s a polished and engaging version of your response:

Tied & Two began from humble beginnings when two women left their corporate marketing jobs to start a wedding stationery business. The name reflects this origin—tied symbolizes weddings, two represents the two of us, and it’s also a playful nod to the phrase “tried and true.” We were driven by the desire to make our own hours, raise our children, and explore our creativity freely. We often joke that our partnership is a lot like a marriage, full of ups and downs, but built on trust and shared goals.

Since those early days, Tied & Two has evolved into a full-service creative agency offering branding, website design, and social media management to clients across the U.S., with a strong presence in Augusta and Charlotte. What sets us apart is our commitment to originality and building lasting relationships with our clients. Today, we are proud to be a team of five, with two locations, all working together to create exceptional, thoughtful work that helps our clients stand out in their industries.

Our mission is simple: do great work, stay humble, and foster a creative, supportive, and comfortable work environment for our team. As we continue to grow, we remain focused on doing what we love and loving what we do.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the new opportunities on the horizon. Whether it’s expanding our services, launching new projects, or refining our craft, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Tied & Two.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three key qualities and skills have been most impactful in our journey:

Originality: Creativity is at the heart of everything we do. We constantly push ourselves to think outside the box, ensuring our work is not only effective but also unique. For those early in their journey, we encourage you to embrace creative challenges and experiment with new ideas—it’s where true growth happens.

Work-Life Balance: Building and maintaining a clear separation between work and home life has been vital. It allows us to nurture our personal lives while giving our best to our clients. For those starting out, it’s important to set boundaries early on and prioritize your well-being. Success is most meaningful when it doesn’t come at the cost of your values or personal health.

Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Our clients’ needs led us to expand into social media management, which has been a significant learning experience. Unlike many social media managers, we bring a designer’s eye to create cohesive, visually compelling content. However, we’ve learned that social media success requires more than a beautiful grid—it demands strategic thinking, audience engagement, and adaptability. For anyone developing new skills, our advice is to stay curious, embrace new opportunities, and don’t be afraid to grow alongside your clients.

Ultimately, we believe success comes from staying true to your values, pushing your creative boundaries, and maintaining a commitment to continuous learning and balance.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

Right now, our biggest challenge is growth. We’re fortunate to have a steady stream of work, but we’re very intentional about how we grow. While we want to expand and take on new opportunities, we’re committed to doing so in a way that aligns with our values and maintains the quality of work we’re known for.

We’re focused on growing at a steady, sustainable pace—one that allows us to serve our clients with excellence while fostering a healthy work environment for our team. It’s a balancing act, but it’s one we’re approaching with careful thought and intention.
