Meet Karie Mclain

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karie Mclain a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Karie , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I believe that resilience is something you build over time, but it is also deeply rooted in who you surround yourself with. Growing up, my dad always pushed me to be better and to prove that I was capable of bigger things. It’s something that became deeply rooted in who I am—I’ve never considered failure an option. That drive to push beyond limits is what kept me going through an unexpected battle with a rare and aggressive cancer (a recurrence, and subsequent treatment), and in building my real estate business from the ground up.

Facing that cancer diagnosis (not once, but twice) was one of the hardest challenges in my life, but it reinforced something my dad always taught me: you are capable of more than you think. I’ve carried that belief into my work as well. I didn’t have a book of business handed to me; I had to create every opportunity from scratch. Resilience, for me, is about showing up, pushing through your own boundaries, and always believing that if you work hard enough, you can conquer whatever comes your way—failure just isn’t an option.

I never missed a single appointment, even while undergoing treatments. I poured myself into my work because it gave me purpose and focus. Serving clients who are busy professionals in our area meant they expected an elevated, concierge-level experience—and no matter what I was going through, I was determined to deliver that. Real estate wasn’t just a job; it became my outlet, allowing me to pour myself into something meaningful. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to serve my clients at such a high level, and in many ways, that service kept me going.

I am currently cancer free (though followed very closely), and grateful for everyday.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I specialize in providing an elevated real estate experiences to busy professionals, luxury clients, and military families relocating to the Colorado Springs and the Monument areas. What excites me most about what I do is helping people navigate the complexities of real estate while making the process as seamless as possible. My focus is on offering concierge-level service, where I handle details so my clients can focus on their busy lives without worrying about the intricacies of their transaction. They can continue to live their lives as uninterrupted as possible. They expect utmost professionalism because that is what they provide in their own profession during their daily lives.

I utilize a combination of cutting-edge digital marketing strategies and traditional values like trust and relationship-building. My clients appreciate that I don’t just facilitate a transaction; I guide them through every step, advocating for them and ensuring they feel supported throughout the entire process.

Right now, I’m expanding my reach by leveraging new marketing tools and launching specialized services, including comprehensive guides designed to make every step of the buying or selling process less overwhelming. I’m also growing my agent referral business, sharing tips and strategies through an agent-to-agent newsletter. Everything I do is focused on creating a high-end, stress-free experience for my clients, helping them achieve their real estate goals.

I absolutely love creating business systems so that you can enjoy more of your life (while working less of it away). This Fall, I plan to launch an online course geared toward systematizing your business (and anyone in a small business could benefit from that course – I’ve already done a test run).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Client-Centered Service:
The cornerstone of my business is serving my clients at the highest possible level. Real estate is not just a transaction; it’s about guiding people through some of the most important decisions of their lives with care, expertise, and attention to detail. My goal is to provide a seamless, concierge-level experience that allows my clients to feel completely supported and confident in their journey. My advice is to always put the client’s needs first and never underestimate the power of excellent service and professionalism. When you treat every client as your top priority, the trust and relationships you build will lead to long-term success.

2. Building Relationships in the Community:
I’ve always placed a heavy focus on building strong, authentic relationships within our community. Serving the people in my area goes beyond real estate—it’s about being a trusted resource and advocate for my neighbors and creating connections that extend far beyond a sale. For anyone starting out, I can’t stress enough the value of genuinely investing in your community. Be present, be engaged, and show that you’re committed to making a positive impact. When your clients and community know you care, they will become your biggest supporters.

3. Delivering Elevated, Personalized Service:
I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to delivering elevated, personalized service to every client. Having seen every angle of the real estate business, with a background in lending and underwriting, followed by years of selling homes on the front end, I can predict issues before they even happen. Whether my clients are buying a luxury home or relocating for military service, they expect and deserve the highest level of professionalism and attention. I make it a priority to deeply understand their unique goals and challenges so I can tailor my approach to meet their specific needs. For those starting their journey, my advice is to focus on providing a tailored experience—truly understand your clients’ goals, and always strive to exceed their expectations.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth over the last 12 months has been working to achieve a better work-life balance. For years, I was constantly in ‘go mode,’ but I realized the importance of carving out time for myself and my family outside of growing the business. To make this happen, I’ve implemented systems, processes, and automation that allow me to step back while still ensuring every client receives the same white-glove experience. While I still work hard, there are now elements of my business on autopilot that give me the freedom to enjoy time on weekends, spend quality time with my family, and even take the occasional vacation. It’s been a game-changer, allowing me to focus on what matters most without compromising the high level of service I provide to my clients. I believe every business owner should prioritize boundaries and effective systems that can help you grow, scale, and outsource.
