Meet Karneilla McGee

We recently connected with Karneilla McGee and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Karneilla, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My strong work ethic stems from the values instilled in me by my beloved parents, who emphasized the importance of setting and striving toward goals. Observing their dedicated work ethic and numerous sacrifices to establish a secure, comfortable, and loving environment implanted a drive within me from an early age. Growing up in the resource-limited rural Mississippi Delta, I felt compelled to formulate a plan that would enable me to break free from the constraints of the area and pursue my passion wholeheartedly.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a dedicated spouse and mother of three wonderful children, as well as a homeschooling enthusiast. As a seasoned entrepreneur, I hold the esteemed positions of Founder and CEO at Kalaya’s Jewels To Healing, C.H.O.S.E.N Doula Services, and the National C.H.O.S.E.N Doulas Association. Additionally, I serve as the President and Founder of the non-profit organization, Miseducation Of Melanated Sister, Inc.

My commitment to serving both my nation and its people is a source of great pride. I attribute the success of my endeavors to a higher purpose, dedicating my work to the Lord. My life finds meaning in servitude, allowing me to break barriers and provide unwavering support to the black and brown community. I take pride in delivering valuable contributions to my community, fostering healing in various forms.

Presently, my focus is on the development and launch of the C.H.O.S.E.N Doula Oasis, aimed at addressing and overcoming the challenges of the black maternal mortality rate.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The significant factors that influenced my journey were compassion for others, leadership skills, and a commitment to organization and structure. Above all, my profound desire to serve The Most High by utilizing my talents and skills to contribute to the healing of my nation played a crucial role. I advise those at the early stages of their journey to be personable and intentional about discovering their purpose. Once you’ve identified your purpose, everything else will fall into place. However, effective planning and organization are essential. Avoid solely pursuing wealth; instead, focus on your purpose. It’s important to recognize that meaningful achievements take time. Remember the mantra, ‘Plan your work and work your plan.’

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Bible has been the paramount source that has played, or I should say, continues to play a crucial role in shaping my development. I’ll share a couple of my favorite scriptures that serve as guiding principles for me:

Romans 12:11 (KJV) – not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord,
Ecclesiasticus 33:17 (KJV) – Consider that I laboured not for myself only, but for all them that seek learning.
2 Peter 1:10 (KJV) – Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.
