We were lucky to catch up with Karryl Durr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Karryl, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Growing up, I was inspired to find my purpose by observing my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles work hard in their careers, show love and compassion to family, friends, and strangers, face challenges in their lives and overcome them, and their relationship with God.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I proudly opened The Swann School of Protocol Baton Rouge to help enrich the lives of individuals through the instruction of etiquette and social courtesies.
I have a passion for teaching etiquette and offer a wide range of courses, classes, and workshops tailored to different age groups and settings. Whether it’s business etiquette, social etiquette, dining etiquette, or any other aspect of proper conduct, my hands-on and virtual courses are designed to help individuals enhance their social skills and professional image.
I take great pleasure in training individuals and working with various entities such as businesses, universities, and professional organizations. By imparting valuable etiquette knowledge and skills, I strive to empower people to navigate social and professional situations with confidence and grace.
From teaching children and teens, the basics of polite behavior to guiding college students in their transition to the professional world, I am committed to promoting good manners and proper conduct in all aspects of life. With my expertise as a Certified Etiquette Consultant, I am dedicated to helping individuals and organizations achieve success in their personal and professional relationships through the power of etiquette.
Growing up in North Baton Rouge, LA. I have always had the enthusiasm, and the mind set to help people in my community, the City of Baton Rouge, and surrounding areas to become the best version of themselves.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three of the most important qualities to have are good work ethics, the ability to focus, and the ability to invest in your business. A few recommendations for people who are just starting out on their journey as an entrepreneur. The goal is to develop a strong business relationship in the community, the city, the schools, the local and state governments by actively participating in community activities, participating in networking events, and connecting with seasoned professionals, entrepreneurs, and mentors that will be able to encourage and coach you as you go.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am seeking opportunities to partner or collaborate with individuals, parents, schools, churches, workforce development programs, businesses, colleges, universities, and professional organizations.
I have provided my website as a means of connection. They can easily reach out to me by visiting my website.
