Meet Karyn Blaney

We recently connected with Karyn Blaney and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Karyn, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

How I Found My Purpose in Art
I’ve always known that art was part of who I am — it’s how I see the world, how I connect with others, and how I express what words can’t always say. But it took time to realize that my true purpose wasn’t just in creating art, it was in sharing it.
I loved the creative process, but also had this deep passion for planning experiences — organizing parties, celebrating milestones, and finding ways to make people feel special. At first, those two loves seemed separate: one was artistic, the other social. But over time, I realized they could come together in a way that brought real joy to others.
That’s how ArtSocial 805 was born — a space where creativity and celebration meet. I discovered that I could use my artistic skills to design meaningful, hands-on experiences that bring people together. Whether it’s a paint-and-sip night, a family art class, or a luxury private event, I get to watch people connect, relax, and express themselves — sometimes for the first time in years.
My purpose in art is creating those moments of connection — where creativity becomes a shared experience. I’ve found that art doesn’t just hang on a wall; it can live in laughter, color, and community. It’s more than my career — it’s the bridge between my passion for art and my love for celebrating life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

At ArtSocial 805, we believe creativity is for everyone. I’ve combined my background in fine art with my passion for event planning to create experiences that bring people together through art, laughter, and connection. What started as a simple idea — making art more approachable and fun — has grown into a vibrant studio and mobile art company that reaches people of all ages across the Central Coast of California.
Our studio in Paso Robles is a creative haven where guests can drop in, take a class, or celebrate life’s special moments through painting, pottery, and mixed-media projects. But what truly makes ArtSocial 805 special is the experience: it’s not just about what you make, but how you feel while making it. We host everything from kids’ parties and afterschool art programs to date nights, corporate team events, and luxury “paint anywhere” experiences — bringing creativity to wineries, schools, festivals, and private homes.
What excites me most is watching people light up when they realize, “I can do this!” Art has this incredible way of building confidence, sparking joy, and creating connection — and that’s the heart of everything we do.
Right now, we’re expanding our creative offerings with new seasonal workshops, a growing travel art experience line, and partnerships with local wineries and schools. We’re also introducing curated art kits and private event packages so guests can take the ArtSocial experience anywhere.
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to help people create, connect, and celebrate — because art isn’t just something you make; it’s something you live.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking Back: The Three Qualities That Shaped My Journey
1. Creativity with Courage
Creativity has always been my foundation, but it took courage to turn it into a career. Art isn’t just about talent — it’s about taking risks, experimenting, and trusting your instincts even when the outcome isn’t certain. I learned early on that the best ideas often start as a “what if.” For anyone just beginning, don’t wait until everything feels perfect. Start messy, stay curious, and let creativity guide you.
2. Connection and Communication
So much of what I do is about people — building community, inspiring confidence, and creating experiences that bring joy. Learning how to connect with others, listen to their stories, and communicate your passion clearly is just as important as any creative skill. For those starting out, invest time in relationships. Your network — both personal and professional — can open doors, collaborations, and friendships you never expected.
3. Adaptability and a Learning Mindset
The art world and small business world are always evolving. From learning new mediums to managing social media, teaching classes, or planning events — every stage has required flexibility and a willingness to grow. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn something new. My advice? Don’t be afraid to pivot. The ability to adapt keeps your creativity — and your confidence — alive.
Final Advice:
Find the intersection between what you love and what lights others up. That’s where your purpose lives. Keep showing up, keep creating, and remember — confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything; it comes from doing what you love, even when it feels a little scary.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Emma isn’t just my assistant — she’s my right hand and a true partner in bringing my vision to life. She’s someone I trust completely with my business, my ideas, and my dreams. From the very beginning, Emma has believed in what we’re building and has been by my side through every challenge, pivot, and success.
She has this incredible ability to stay calm under pressure and see solutions where others might see obstacles. Her steady support and thoughtful insight have helped me grow not only as a business owner but as a leader. She always has my best interest at heart.
What I admire most about her is her loyalty and warmth. She genuinely cares about our team, our customers, and the experience we create through ArtSocial 805. I can trust her with anything — from managing events to brainstorming new ideas — because she approaches every task with care and integrity.
Having someone like Emma by my side has made all the difference. She’s more than an assistant; she’s my right hand, my sounding board, and one of the biggest reasons this dream continues to grow.
