Meet Kasey Norton

We recently connected with Kasey Norton and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kasey with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My parents split up when I was 9, so I was aware enough of what was going on. I watched my mom provide the very best childhood for me and looking back she did that by working hard. I was the last kid at after school care almost daily, I spent holidays like Easter and Halloween at shopping centers (her clients at the time). That was my normal!

She’s never tried to climb the corporate ladder, but more so do work that makes her happy. She’s been her own boss since I was about 18 always making ends meet. It wasn’t until a trip we took together after I graduated college (and had a real job) that I understood why she always had to take her laptop with her when we went places or why she was always on her phone. Because she was still working!

She still works hard and I’m so thankful for everything she has taught me along our journey together!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I met Shreya in 2021 when we lived near each other in Austin, TX. As I learned more about her story and the product she had created, I was fascinated. The science of everything and how much our conversations opened my eyes to so much. About a year after meeting, Shreya asked me to join her mighty team of one (entrepreneur life!) by doing social media. The role quickly evolved to Shreya’s right-hand woman.

Hyve is a non-toxic line of household cleaners. As we work to help others lessen the toxic load in our homes by using a non-toxic cleaner, we are also educating! It takes a lot of un-learning in our field. Really teaching people that bacteria is not a bad word. That disinfecting surfaces and wiping them clean of “99.9% germs and bacteria” is also doing us a disservice. We have to unteach generations of cleaning – we are saying goodbye to the Bleach Generation!

So while my position with Hyve has evolved from social media to all forms of marketing and brainstorming, I am also evolving and making better choices for myself, my family and the planet.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I really believe remaining true to who I am got me to where I am today. I’ve never tried to fit into the shell of a company I worked for. I was always myself. I didn’t meet Shreya and try to convince her I was living a totally non-toxic lifestyle, because I wasn’t. And it turns out that has worked for us – I am able to share my journey and help others along the way.

Creativity is something I get from my mom (and still brainstorm with her today!). I like to think out of the box and make connections between people or businesses that may not be expected.

Kindness will never go out of style and that’s something I believe to my core.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Education and opportunities. Because my parents were divorced, there wasn’t always someone to watch me when they had work events. I went to a TON of stuff. I learned how to speak to adults, I learned the ins and outs of event planning, I met a lot of people and formed relationships. Because of my parents I was able to have great internships through people they knew, help on commercial sets, work red carpet events, etc.

They set me up for my future and I didn’t even realize it. When I applied for my first post-college, “real” job, I was so nervous and my mom quickly reminded me that I already knew how to do all the things that were asked, I had been doing them!
