We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kashish Bhandari a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kashish, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by immersing myself in storytelling and exploring diverse forms of art. I draw inspiration from everyday life, whether it’s through observing nature, people -watching or exploring different forms of art like movies, novels or even music. Watching movies is one of my favorite ways to spark my imagination—it’s like stepping into different worlds and experiencing life through fresh perspectives. Whether it’s animated classics or thought-provoking dramas, I love dissecting how visuals, narratives, and characters come together to create a powerful impact.
This inspiration often flows into my own work, helping me experiment with styles and storytelling techniques. Alongside that, I make time for personal doodles and projects that let me play with ideas freely, and I engage with creative communities where collaboration and feedback keep the spark alive. Creativity, to me, is about staying curious, exploring new stories, and never losing the sense of wonder.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a visual effects artist with a deep passion for storytelling, and I’ve recently expanded into the world of virtual production. My work involves creating visuals that transport audiences to new worlds, blending art and technology to bring imagination to life. Whether it’s crafting stunning environments, realistic effects, or integrating cutting-edge virtual production techniques, I thrive on the challenge of turning concepts into visual experiences that resonate with people.
What excites me most about this field is its constant evolution. The integration of virtual production has opened up limitless possibilities for collaboration and creativity. It allows us to visualize and iterate in real time, bridging the gap between the director’s vision and the final product more seamlessly than ever before.
As for what’s new, I’m actively exploring how virtual production can further enhance storytelling in both film and interactive media. My focus is on pushing the boundaries of what’s possible while staying true to the heart of storytelling.
For anyone who enjoys my work, I want them to know that my art is driven by a genuine love for creativity and connection. Every project I take on is an opportunity to learn, grow, and share something meaningful with the world. Whether it’s through films, personal projects, or collaborations, I strive to create work that inspires and resonates with others

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey as a visual effects artist and now venturing into virtual production, three qualities or skills stand out as most impactful: adaptability, strong foundational knowledge, and collaboration.
Adaptability has been crucial because the field of VFX and virtual production evolves so rapidly. New technologies, workflows, and tools emerge all the time, and being open to learning and experimenting has allowed me to stay ahead and thrive.
Strong foundational knowledge in art, design, and storytelling has also been essential. While software and technology are important, understanding the fundamentals of composition, color, and narrative structure gives depth and meaning to the technical work.
Finally, collaboration has played a key role. Visual effects and virtual production are deeply collaborative processes that involve working with diverse teams to bring ideas to life. Building relationships, listening to others, and sharing knowledge have been invaluable in my growth.
For those starting out, I’d say:
Stay curious and keep learning. Explore not just tools but also the theories behind them.
Don’t be afraid to fail—experimentation is where growth happens.
Build your network and value teamwork; your peers can become your biggest source of inspiration and support.
Above all, remember that passion fuels creativity, so nurture your love for the craft and let it guide you through every challenge and opportunity

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my family. They’ve been my rock, offering unconditional love and support no matter which path I chose. Their unwavering belief in me gave me the courage to chase my dreams, even when they felt out of reach.
I’m also incredibly thankful for my mentors, both during my undergraduate years and now at SCAD. They’ve been more than just teachers—they’ve been guides, supporters, and confidants. These mentors recognized my potential, even during moments when I doubted myself, and they pushed me to refine my craft and expand the boundaries of my creativity. Their wisdom and encouragement have been pivotal in shaping who I am as an artist and a person.
Lastly, I have to give credit to my amazing peers. They’ve been my collaborators, challengers, and biggest cheerleaders. Working alongside such talented individuals has inspired me to think differently, work harder, and celebrate both my growth and theirs. This journey wouldn’t have been the same without their camaraderie and encouragement
