Meet Kashmira Khot

We were lucky to catch up with Kashmira Khot recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kashmira, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

I learned Indian Classical music as a child… Classical forms of music and dance require a lot of dedication, patience, self-evaluation skills, and that strictness of the environment may sometimes bring you down when you don’t perform well. So, you practice more and more. Classical music requires you to practice till you physically can’t anymore, because you CAN practice till then. It’s not just a hobby when you pick it up. It’s not just for pleasure. For me, that’s where I learned consistency in practice, and seeing slow but big improvements since then has only made my belief in it stronger- it really is about self-discipline. Nobody’s going to take you seriously, if you can’t treat your own skill with the respect and dedication it deserves.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Kashmira, a 24-year-old musician based in Pune, India. Having grown up with classical music, I’ve since transitioned into writing and composing my own independent rock and pop songs. So far, I’ve released five singles and I’m looking forward to launching an album later this year.

As a solo artist, I perform live with my guitar, but I’m also part of a rock band called Stardust Symphony. Our sound is deeply influenced by the classic rock of the 70s and 80s, with an emphasis on high-energy performances and vintage vibes. In addition to my solo work, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to various studio projects for movies and collaborating with other artists.

I perform in English, Hindi, and Marathi, and I enjoy experimenting with different genres. I view every song as a new adventure, where trial and error lead to both growth and excitement, making it all the more fulfilling to explore the boundaries of music!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

While I’m still in the early stages of my journey, I’ve come to realize that in today’s music industry, versatility is essential. To succeed, it’s important to have a solid understanding of various aspects, including music production, engineering, composing, songwriting, instrumentation, management, business, and marketing. While it would be ideal to focus solely on artistic development, the reality is that an artist must also take charge of their own brand and product.

If you aim to be truly independent, it requires not only mastering your craft but also gaining knowledge of the many facets that contribute to being both an artist and a performer. Surround yourself with mentors and people who inspire you—those who challenge you to grow. Ultimately, the drive to improve and achieve success lies in your own hands. You decide the path forward, and the rewards will follow!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

From a young age, my parents recognized my potential for singing and ensured I received the best possible training. With their strong musical background, they closely monitored my practice, offered guidance when necessary, and consistently encouraged me to improve. Their unwavering support and active involvement during my formative years were invaluable in shaping my development as a vocalist.

In 2017, when I decided to transition to western music, particularly rock and pop, it took some time to convince them of this major shift in direction. However, once they understood my passion, they embraced my decision and have been incredibly supportive ever since. As part of their encouragement, in 2024, they sent me to the United States for a six-week solo trip to explore the music scene, discover new opportunities, and experience firsthand what it’s like to perform the music I love in a country where it is widely appreciated and celebrated.

I’m very grateful to have their love and understanding.
