We recently connected with Kassidy Clothier and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kassidy, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
For self care I enjoy being out in nature and traveling the world. When I’m not working I’m often hiking, paddle boarding, traveling, or hanging out with family and friends. These activities keep me grounded, both mentally and physically, and allow me to recharge in a way that helps motivate me to work. They allow me to stay inspired, energized, and emotionally present for the couples I work with. The more balanced I feel in my personal life, the more I can give to my clients and the weddings I shoot.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Photography has always been a passion of mine. I started out with landscape and portrait photography, just experimenting and learning my craft. I was the editor in chief of yearbook in high school and I’d have all my friends model for me. But everything changed the moment I shot my first wedding. There’s something about being in the midst of that raw emotion, the candid moments, and the genuine joy that made me realize I had found my calling. From that moment on, I was hooked.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, I’d say there were three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that had the most impact on my growth as a wedding photographer were flexibility, failure, and building strong relationships with clients. For those starting out, I’d say: Focus on mastering your gear, learn to adapt to whatever comes your way, and always prioritize building meaningful connections with your clients. Your passion, hard work, and willingness to grow will set you up for long-term success in this field.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Bible has been an incredibly impactful book in my personal and professional development. It’s not just a source of spiritual wisdom but also a guide for navigating life, relationships, and even my work as a wedding photographer. A few nuggets of wisdom that stand out to me from the Bible are:
1. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” – Colossians 3:23
This verse has always reminded me to put my full heart into everything I do, whether I’m photographing a wedding or simply going about my daily tasks. It’s a call to excellence and integrity, encouraging me to do my best work for a higher purpose rather than for personal recognition. It’s about dedicating yourself to your craft with passion and purpose.
2. “Let all that you do be done in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:14
As a wedding photographer, this verse speaks directly to the heart of my work. Photography isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about capturing love, joy, and connection. Approaching my work with love allows me to engage deeply with couples, ensuring that I create not just photos, but memories that reflect their love story.
