We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kassinda Tsehai (KTsehai). We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kassinda Tsehai below.
Kassinda Tsehai , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from a mix of curiosity and accountability. I have always been someone who wants to understand how things work, especially when it comes to creative processes. That curiosity has led to the start of my brand and my discipline essentially became a personal non-negotiable. Surrounding myself with resilient hard-workers and creatives have taught me that while talent is common, consistency is not. As I continue to dive into new areas of my creativity, that same mindset carries over. I treat everything like a responsibility, not a phase. I continuously show up daily, study, experiment, and allow myself to learn. My work ethic is rooted in the belief that to reach my goals, I must work with intention and respect to what I am learning and myself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a music curator, journalist, and emerging producer whose work sits at the intersection of listening, documenting, and creating. My brand TSECODE is currently evolving from a publication into a broader creative platform; while I simultaneously grow my own personal brand as a curator and producer. I have always been deeply rooted in music. Not just as a listener, but as someone who studies it. Through my brand, I’ve spent time writing about music, networking with artists, and paying attention to how sounds, culture, and storytelling intersect. TSECODE is the creative foundation that continues to evolve alongside me, while I build my own voice within music.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Developing taste has been foundational to my journey. I grew up in a very creative family: my grandfather being a DJ, my uncles being painters and filmmakers, my mother being a physical artist; creativity has been within me since a child. As I have grown older, music grew to become my point of focus. I have spent years studying music, engaging with artists and their creative processes, and writing about music, which essentially trained my ear and helped me understand what feels intentional versus what feels rushed. That sense of taste guides how I approach learning production my own sound. The other two important skills that have been impactful to my journey are adaptability and self-awareness. My path hasn’t been linear and my interests often evolve or alter. By allowing myself to pivot and grow, I have brought flexibility and trust into my creative growth. Self-awareness has helped me to define when to produce vs. when to learn.
My journey is still in its early phases, but my advice to anyone starting early in their journey of creative careers is to show up every day. I wish that when I was younger, I had the chance to see more successful people within creative careers. You have to understand that it is possible, should you show up everyday and continue to perfect your craft. You do NOT have to be perfect, but practice creates confidence.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
“Unlearn: 101 Simple Truths for a Better Life” is one of the best books I have ever read. It is a “self-help” book by a Poet that offers short, counterintuitive lessons to challenge conventional thinking and promote personal growth. My two favorite quotes from the book are “create a life that feels good on the inside; not just one that looks good from the outside” and “anyone who has done something amazing has done it despite their fear, not because of its absence”. Navigating my early adulthood and building my career, I have learned that my life has to feel good for me, and I have to surround myself around those that show it possible to support my confidence. Leaving your comfort zone is one of the most important things you can do.
