Meet Kat Tischler

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kat Tischler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kat below.

Kat, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Strangely enough, I developed it from the same place that originally tore it down. When I was 18, I moved to LA to be an actress/model. Original, I know.

Well, at 5’10”, 125 lbs, and LITERALLY anorexic, I was told to gain a few pounds so I could be plus size. Oof.

After doing a lot of therapy, I finally began to not loathe myself, but the real healing wasn’t until I was in my late 20s and I got a job as an extra on a TV show, which led to getting an agent and going on hundreds of auditions. Somehow hearing 100 no’s for every yes made it click in my head that I was either what the casting director wanted or didn’t want and that it actually had nothing to do with my value as a person, it was just their vision and that was fine.

This “aha” moment seeped its way into my subconscious and I’ve applied it to the rest of my life and business. They don’t like me? Don’t want to work with me? I guess I’m not their cup of tea and that’s fine. I’m still me, I love me and the right people will find me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve been a professional home organizer for over 16 years, and I’ve seen it all. My passion is helping people let go of the clutter to make room for what they actually want in life. I do this by bringing a bit of punk rock, F*ck The Container Store vibe to my client’s projects.

There’s a $12 BILLION dollar organizing industry and quite frankly, that pisses me off. We don’t need more marketing to tell us to buy things to put our things in when the problem is we all have too much stuff.

It warms my cockles to see clients finally move past the crap that’s been holding them back, learn how to let it go, and then see all the new opportunities that come flooding in as soon as they’ve chosen themselves over “stuff”.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have been most impactful are tenacity, love, and a sense of humor.

It’s not often the most talented or smartest people that make it, it’s the ones that just keep going and refuse to give up. Decide that for yourself. You ARE going to make it.

But if there’s no love involved, both for yourself and for your clients, then why bother? You might be making the numbers, but you’ll be miserable. You might be making big changes for your clients, but you’re burnt out. Self-love and boundaries make for great businesses.

And finally, a sense of humor. The old joke is “man plans, God laughs”. Anyone remember that mildly disruptive event in 2020? Yeah, no one except Bill Gates saw that coming. Be willing to laugh and say well, that certainly wasn’t what I was planning. And then be ready to pivot.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m part of a collective called The Village Roots and we all believe we are stronger together and it does, indeed, take a village. If you’re in the health and wellness space, I’d love to see if we can collaborate through interviews. I run a membership that includes one simplifying call per month and one bonus self-care call. If you’re a good fit, would love to feature you!
