Meet Kate Jade

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kate Jade a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kate, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

For me, my creativity comes from my spiritual path. I believe everyone connects with divinity in their own way, whether it be through music, art, science, psychology, philosophy, religion, spirituality, or the like. My understanding of the universe and energy gives me glimpses of just how interwoven all of these inspired pieces of our human experience are. Unfortunately, much of our society is wired to think of all of these concepts as separate from one another, but when you’re willing to look at all of them as different methods for “climbing the same mountain”, everything changes. All of my creative endeavors dabble in the intersection of all these different “lenses” of understanding our world. This ultimately keeps the creative possibilities endless because there’s always a new way to tell the same story.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My passions truly are in storytelling and teaching specifically related to esoteric wisdom. The majority of our world is built on “exoteric wisdom, ” intended for the masses. This is the type of wisdom you might fight in churches, published online, or generally available for public consumption. Esoteric wisdom, on the other hand, is that which is often hidden, obscured from the masses, or reserved for a select few who are willing or capable of accepting things shrouded in mystery. This love of esotericism and mysticism is fundamental to who I am and has fueled the books I have published and the founding of our metaphysical shop and wisdom school, Astarte’s Temple.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Boiling down spiritual growth, for me, came down to being willing to unlearn things I had previously been taught, allowing myself to explore other paths to wisdom, and holding new ideas loosely before adopting them as my own beliefs until they had been tested and proven. All of that is way easier to say than do, but it’s necessary for anyone who wants to expand their mind from their current state. This applies in the esoteric wisdom space that I am in, of course, but it can also be relevant to someone who is preparing to start college, moving to a different country, or embracing a new career path.

Unlearning things we’ve previously been taught could range from false information to biases about other ways of life. In the spiritual space, we can’t even begin to explore other paths to the divine if we assume everyone’s beliefs except for our own circle are “evil”. From there, research is incredibly necessary—history, tradition, other people’s personal views, and so on, all can help form a better picture for alternative viewpoints from our own. Lastly, it’s critical to hold everything loosely. Just because someone else believes something doesn’t mean you have to as well, but you might ultimately agree with their views. That’s why I encourage everyone to hold everything they learn loosely until it can be tested and/or proven. At that point, it’s much easier to then choose what to adopt or reject in your own life.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Overcoming fear of how others perceive me and my beliefs is one of the things I am most proud of over the last year. Mysticism, esotericism, and metaphysical topics aren’t often accepted with open arms in conservative and religiously dominated societies. For most of my life, I have feared the world seeing the real me, knowing what I truly believe, or pursuing what I love most. Removing this roadblock has made it much easier to publish my books, teach through my wisdom school, and grow my metaphysical shop’s business.
