Meet Kate Kincaid

We recently connected with Kate Kincaid and have shared our conversation below.

Kate , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I think my optimism comes from being a parent. For me, choosing to have children is an exercise in hope and faith that there will be a worthwhile future for them to grow up into. And then I remember that I have to do my part to ensure that future exists.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’ve been running my small business, a group private mental health therapy practice since 2015. I’ve learned so much as a therapist and also as a business owner. Both roles constantly challenge me and show me where I still need to grow. I’ve loved watching my practices grow and also mentoring and supervising other clinicians. I love watching others grow and become more confident in their skills. I’d like to get more into business coaching and mentoring since I’m finding myself doing that more and loving it too.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think initiative, audacity and persistence are three of the most important qualities that have helped me in my journey. If I have an idea, I don’t shoot it down in my head before I try it. I always talk about it, try it out, reach out to people who are doing it or who I can collaborate with (even if I’m not sure they’ll even respond) and try to make things happen. I also keep at something even if it’s not quite working for a while before I decide to give up on it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I think networking with other business owners in my same field and also in adjacent fields has been really helpful. I like to be around people who are working on similar things but in different ways and I love being around people who inspire me. It’s great to learn from others who know more than me and to help share what I learn with others.
