Meet Kate Mollison

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kate Mollison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I was tragically and unexpectedly widowed at the age of 32. I had been married to my soulmate for almost 10 years. I can honestly say, we had it all… we had the dream house, two beautiful children, and we were settling into a life that was beyond my wildest dreams. That was all taken away from me in the blink of an eye. In November of 2020, just two days before thanksgiving, Craig suffered from a pulmonary embolism as a result of egregious medical neglect.

I knew the moment Craig died that my life would be changed forever, but what I didn’t know was that I would find strength and resilience within myself that would not only help myself and my children, but would reach people across the world. The real gift and legacy Craig leaves behind, is the power to change the experience for others. As a result, I’ve made it my mission to demystify the grief narrative we’re inaccurately given. The one that’s all dressed up on T.V. and served on a silver platter. But to really help people truly understand grief, we must also educate on the things that go hand and hand with it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

On Tuesdays We Wear Black coaches organizations and their people through the Grief & Bereavement process. We focus on collaborative services and offer the unique opportunity for curated support through an otherwise isolating experience.

Our purpose and our name comes from our founder, Kate Mollison and her personal experience as a widow. Her late husband, Craig was a huge fan of Broadway, one of his favorites being the musical adaptation of “Mean Girls”. He would often quote the famous line “On Wednesdays, we wear pink…”, even sporting a pink neck tie to work every Wednesday as a secret celebration for the story.

Craig unexpectedly passed away on a Tuesday in November of 2020. So although we wear pink on Wednesdays, on Tuesdays, we wear black.

The 2nd annual “National Grief Awareness Conference” is happening on September 20th of next year! Mark your Calendar and follow event updates on the website (www.otwwb.com)

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Not every door is meant for you. This means that you cannot operate from a place of scarcity, even when things are scarce. You have to keep believing in order to maintain forward momentum. There will be many opportunities along the path, but not all of them are good for you. So spend some time really establishing your core values and boundaries so you can confidently walk away from the open doors that don’t lead to your success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely!
I’m looking for cross referral partners, event sponsors, event chair people, and really anyone who has questions about their bereavement leave & grief support resources
