Meet Kate Rose

We were lucky to catch up with Kate Rose recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Such a great question! The thing about being resilient is you don’t know you are until you’re tested. Resilience comes from getting up one more time that we’re knocked down. For better or worse, I’ve had many experiences in my life that were “character building” to put it mildly. But it was recovering from brain surgery, about five years ago, that really solidified, not just my resilience, but my willingness to claim it, to recognize myself as a resilient person.

I remember being out for a walk on the one year anniversary of my surgery (a successful craniotomy to remove a massive, benign meningioma) and realizing how wild the whole experience was! Thinking about all the very slow walks up and down my hallway while my friend kept me upright, the months of needing to sit on a stool while I showered, relearning balance or figuring out how to adjust for becoming fully blind in my right eye, and I finally gave myself the acknowledgement that I’m kind of a badass!

For me though, the biggest part of being able to keep going, no matter what the circumstance, is by staying in gratitude. Being grateful was instilled in me as early as I can remember. My mother, a shining example of resilience herself, was always encouraging me to see all I have. As hard as some of my experiences have been, I can always see where and how it could be worse. When I combine that with a deep faith that everything is ultimately always working for my highest good, it really helps. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not always easy but gratitude is a discipline, a muscle we must work to strengthen. Plus, to be out of alignment with gratitude never feels good so I definitely see it as a worthwhile practice.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
For most of my adult life, I was in retail management – from being a Store Director for various luxury brands to consulting for private businesses – and although there were facets of it that I loved, finding out I had a brain tumor 21+ years in the making really adjusted my perspective. Throw in radiation treatments, a global pandemic, and. a cross country move, and boom, my priorities completely changed.

Actually, I got ahead of myself…back in early 2007, I said a prayer that changed my life. I was 26 and in the darkest place imaginable, desperate for reprieve so I asked God (Spirit, Source, whatever one prefers) for intervention. It was almost immediately that my prayer was answered and since then, the majority of my time was spent healing, re-learning my divine connection and remembering my soul’s mission to help others. I explored every healing modality I could find, read countless books, attended workshops, worked with Spiritual mentors, and became certified in two modalities of Reiki, as well as Angelic Quantum Healing.

So, now back to my priorities shifting…Because life is a truly precious gift not to be wasted, I decided to fully embrace my love of helping others heal and I jumped into business for myself with Rose in Light, a still young company with a focus on helping people remember that we are always loved, seen and heard by forces more powerful and loving than we could ever imagine. I offer private or group healing sessions and channeled readings, spiritual coaching for individuals and businesses, workshops, certifications for all levels of Usui and Karuna Reiki, perform home and space clearings and am just beginning to dip into the glorious world of retreats which is very exciting.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My greatest skillset, I’d have to say, has always been in communication. I believe it is very important to be clear and direct, while being kind and mindful of where someone may be at any given time. Which leads me to being compassionate and empathetic. I try to keep in mind that I don’t know anyone else’s story – a group of people can all look at the same thing but it’s each individual’s lens that colors what they see. And finally, I think something that has really contributed to my success, especially as a healer, is transparency around my own experiences. I think my willingness to share my story vulnerably and honestly helps to build trust. It lets someone know they aren’t being judged and that they aren’t alone. All of us have trauma, we’ve all done things we wish we hadn’t, we are humans having this Earthside experience and at the end of the day, I believe we’re all wanting to be witnessed, loved, and to believe that we are going to be okay.

For anyone and everyone, no matter the stage of your journey, first and foremost, be kinder to yourself. You deserve it and it’ll help you be kinder and more compassionate with others. Be honest and clear about who you are and what you want or need; this helps you take responsibility for your life and avoid blame of anyone else. Understand that you don’t need to have it all figured out yet – there’s this great Richard Bach quote (from one of my all time favorite books, “Illusions”), “Here’s a test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you’re alive it isn’t”. Practice discernment, hold your boundaries, but stay flexible to change, take your passions seriously but not yourself, and have as much fun as you can now because everything exists for just a season!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely, I love connecting with and getting to know new people! As I mentioned, I’m just getting into the retreat space so if there’s an individual or organization looking for a contributor to collaborate with, I’m open. If you have a space for gathering or healing and want to host a Reiki Circle or event, I’m in. If someone is looking to expand their knowledge or grow their own business, looking for an advisor, or a new modality to become certified in, please reach out! And if you’ve read this and are needing a place to start or further your personal healing, I’m always taking new clients. Emailing me at [email protected] is great or you can connect through my website roseinlight.com. I’d be so delighted to hear from you!
