Meet Kate Tran

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kate Tran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kate, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

This is such a great question. I actually have conversations about this so often with my clients and have personally worked through this so much over the past few years. It is very easy in the creative industry to get caught up in the “imposter syndrome” and feel like you are not good enough with what you are creating & your skill level. With billions of videos being posted every day, it can be extremely intimidating when you think of the type of content you are posting compared to other creators who may be ahead of you in come cases. What I have learned most is you should look only at other people’s content for inspiration, but you should never compare yourself to where they are & where you are currently. You have no idea what it took for them to get where they are today and often our journeys look so different. The big thing to remember is that there is no “right way” to create. The best solution I have found is measuring yourself against yourself, asking “Am I getting better?” or “Was this one better than the last one?” and continually looking to learn & research & apply those future techniques. It applies to all things really when you are changing & growing as a person. This eliminates so much of that comparison when your focus is just on improving what you do and “competing” with yourself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Of course! My name is Kate Tran and I own and operate a video production company here in Nashville, TN. I’ve been in the industry about 10 years now and worked in a few other production companies as well. After I had my second daughter, I decided to stay home with my kids and freelance while they were young. I started the company back in 2022 after my husband suggested I just “go for it” and it’s been an amazing experience. Almost two years in now, I have helped hundreds of business owners create content for their company and I have loved every minute! I absolutely love helping business owners see the immense value and knowledge they have and also helping them find the confidence to share it through video and gain momentum in their business. Storytelling is definitely a passion of mine, and it is an honor any time anyone trusts me to help build their brand.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First, I would undoubtedly say my faith in God and my commitment to the values He represents guides me everyday in how I talk with every person – whether it is the CEO of the company or a person who works on their team. My top priority is to make every person feel valued, appreciated and taken care of. It is by far the biggest measure of my personal success & my top “super power” if I were to pick one. Another huge attribute that has served me very well has been my ability to fail quickly. I think that is such an underrated skill to be able to assess something that doesn’t work or could work better, figure out what will, and change and pivot direction with enthusiasm. Lastly, I would say my willingness to “try”. I am definitely the type of person with a warped sense of optimism that thinks “it can’t be that hard” and unquenchable desire to learn so I will pretty much try my hand at anything or research it to understand it better so I can find the person who can! Although I have developed many techinical skills, like shooting and post-production, my advice for anyone new is work on yourself first and never think you’ve arrived. Always look to grow and get better.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always looking to collaborate with other creators and agencies looking to build a relationship and help support one another. I heard this quote and it has always stuck with me that “Collaboration is at the top, and competition is at the bottom” and I truly believe that. I work a lot with social media agencies to help create beautiful, effective content for their clients, small and large business owners, brands & other entrepreneurs who are looking to “up” their content game. If you are interested in collaborating, please reach out! I would love to connect.
