Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katelyn Curran . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Katelyn , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from lived experiences. The first half of my life I rarely received anything from anyone. Material or sentimental. But I also had instilled in me a very giving nature. I did a lot of volunteering and outreach work as a child and young adult.
And then amongst some of my hardest trials in life I was shown generosity from some of the kindest souls I’ve ever encountered. My wish is to pass that forward without hesitation.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
So my life’s journey, my personal story is exactly what led me into what I do today.
Simply put I am a severe trauma survivor. I suffered extensive childhood trauma and abuse of many forms. I am a survivor of Domestic Violence and assault in adulthood.
I now live with CPTSD, Anxiety, Depression as well as physical ailments as a result of that trauma.
I am also neurodivergent. AuDHD specifically.
I have taken all of these adversities so to speak and allowed them to form me into an advocate for change.
I started that with my podcast-Healing Echoes (Rebuilding Life After Trauma and Abuse)
I also advocate on all social media platforms, hosting a neurodivergent community on Facebook and am currently working on writing a book.
I take what I do very seriously and am passionate about showing that we can thrive not just survive after tragedy.
My next step is to become certified as an assault advocate and have professional training in trauma recovery so as to better advocate for survivors.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Top qualities for myself would be authenticity. Bringing 100% of yourself and your values into everything you do.
Skill- The ability to adept. Learn as you go, grow and expand. There’s so much knowledge and experience that comes with life and it would be a disservice to yourself and others to not allow yourself to progress.
Area of knowledge- I would say my first hand experiences, while traumatic, have allowed me to be the advocate I am today and hold space for survivors in the way they deserve and so desperately need.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth has been overcoming imposter syndrome. As a neurodivergent and traumatized person IS is a very real thing and through self work and therapy I have been able to push past and see what I can offer others. My work and effort is worth something.
