We recently connected with Katelyn Marks and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Katelyn, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get that from my mom honestly. Growing up I watched her do everything she could for us kids. It didn’t matter if she had to work a couple jobs. She did her best and she’s always been a hard worker. I admire that. I want to be a strong worker, whether it’s my day job or my art. It’s in everything I do really. I just want to be my best self.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hello, my name is Katelyn Marks and I’m a small business owner. I run a page on Facebook (Artwork by Katelyn). I’ve always been a creative from drawing, coloring, singing and more. Back in 2017 I started painting with acrylics and haven’t stopped since. I dabble in all sorts of mediums and enjoy trying new things. This year (2024) I’d like to expand and grow in what I can paint. I would like to collab with other artists in the community/online. Right now I have planned a few in person art events. Currently i have the Michigan Oddities and horror fest right here in Monroe, Mi. Its a great event. Its February 3rd & 4th. Then another in may in Ida, michigan. I have a series i would love to tackle along with talks of a coloring book. My goals are simple; enjoy creating and have fun.
I’ve grown so much and I have my friends, family, and community to thank. I’m truly grateful to have the opportunity to be apart of such a great community of people. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my story.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’m mostly self taught. I learned from just diving in and seeing what happens. Experimenting and seeing how it worked together. Sometimes tutorials are helpful, but I wanted to see if I could do it on my own. Stay true to yourself and create what you want even if it’s something silly. Make your own brand, your own style. It will develop over time. It’s an exciting experience. To step back and say hey I did that, I see the growth.Dont give up, do art that makes you happy, its ok if it doesnt look alright right now trust the process. I’m proud of how far I’ve come!
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
As a whole, I’ve grown so much. I used to want to paint what I thought everyone else would want to see, but it became boring and I don’t mind the simple things. I’ve grown to realize that I want color and fun! I should create what I want!
