Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katherine Del Rio. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katherine, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
This topic hits close to home for me as I’ve grappled with it over recent years. After much reflection, I’ve found that travel is the key that unlocks my creativity. There’s something about the energy of a big city that sparks my imagination, and being near water always stimulates my senses. Experiencing new cultures deeply moves me and opens my mind in unexpected ways. These journeys profoundly impact the stories I write, the food I cook, the characters I bring to life, and even my approach to motherhood. I’ve noticed that I’ve become more of a homebody since the pandemic, which sometimes puts me in a creative rut. I’ve learned that whether its a quick camping trip, or a visit to a dream European city, getting out of my box can clear my head and refresh my creativity.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m an actress, chef, and producer with a deep passion for creativity. I’ve been involved in theater since my childhood and carried that love through my studies at New York University, continuing to perform in New York City. After moving to Los Angeles, I expanded into producing while also embracing the culinary arts. In between acting gigs, I pursued my chef career, serving as a private chef for celebrities, catering on film sets, curating picnic boxes, hosting influencer dinners, and even crafting wedding cakes. Cooking is not just a job for me—it’s an extension of my artistic expression. Drawing on the flavors from my travels, I love designing exciting menus that delight my clients.
Recently, motherhood has introduced a new rhythm to my life, but as my daughter grows more independent, I am eager to return to acting and auditioning, pursuits that had been on pause. I’ve recently signed with an agency in Austin and am in the process of finding representation in Los Angeles, where we split our time. Rekindling my career in acting, my longstanding passion, fills me with anticipation and energy to dive back into the performing arts!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Grit. You have to be relentless and never give up. You have to not care about what the naysayers say-because there will be a lot. The industry comes from a place of “no”. you have to believe your “yes” is coming. One “yes” is bigger than all the “no’s” combined.
Adaptability. You have to move and sway with what is happening in your life. Don’t be so rigid as to think you can only be one thing. As we grow and change we find more things we love and that we are good at. Embrace it and bring it in with your other passions. Find a way to work them all together. No one is just ONE thing. Embrace opportunities that are a little different from what you expected yourself doing.
Grace. Give it to yourself and give it to others. Life is hard and you will inevitably fail at times and others will fail you. The sooner you can find grace in your heart and move on, the sooner you can learn from the failure and grow.
