Meet Kathryn Sauser

We recently connected with Kathryn Sauser and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathryn , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome was a really really tough journey for me, and the biggest turning point was getting sober. Sobriety allowed me to rebuild my self-esteem and focus on small, achievable goals, one day at a time. Instead of getting caught up in future anxieties or dwelling on past mistakes, I learned to stay present and focus on what I could do today. This mindset shift with sobriety gave me the clarity and mental space I needed to create new opportunities and dedicate more time to my goals. I finally started to believe in myself.

I’m naturally a creative, big dreamer, but sometimes that can lead to feeling overwhelmed or losing sight of the small steps required to achieve those dreams. As my business grew, I started to gain more self-esteem, and with each accomplishment, my confidence grew, allowing me to take on even more. Hence why SoberFitGirl grew so fast.

Community also played a huge role in overcoming imposter syndrome. I often get stuck in my own head, full of fear and doubt, so having a strong community of women who support and root for each other has been crucial. That’s why I created SoberFitGirl— to build a community where women can empower each other while pursuing their goals.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m Kathryn Sauser founder of Sober Fit Girl. My journey began at 26 after a night out left me waking up in an unfamiliar place with no memory and overwhelming anxiety. That was my wake-up call, and by the time I turned 30, I knew I needed to cut alcohol out of my life entirely.

Fitness became my outlet, but I quickly realized that my drinking was holding me back. Once I got sober, it was like a switch flipped—my anxiety eased, and I began to build a life I no longer felt the need to escape from. Sharing my story on TikTok, where it resonated with millions, helped me realize that I wasn’t alone. It was tough at first, especially feeling isolated from friends who still partied, but over time, I gained confidence and found a new, fulfilling path.

That’s why I created SoberFitGirl, an app helping sober curious women with mentorship, community, and a lifestyle plan. What started as my personal journey has grown into a large community where we embrace vulnerability and support each other in becoming our best selves.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about our upcoming Bali Retreat in 2025, the launch of the Sober Fit Girl podcast, and events in New York City. SoberFitGirl is a movement—where women can share their stories, grow together, and thrive.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three key qualities were most impactful in my journey: resilience, self-awareness, and the ability to embrace vulnerability.

Resilience was crucial because there were many times when I felt like giving up, especially in the early days of sobriety. Learning to push through those tough moments and keep going, even when it was hard, was essential. For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to remind yourself that setbacks are a part of the process. It’s not about never falling down; it’s about getting back up every time you do.

Self-awareness played a huge role in helping me understand my triggers, patterns, and the underlying reasons behind my behaviors. Developing this skill allowed me to make more mindful decisions and stay on track with my goals. To cultivate self-awareness, community, journaling, reflecting on your experiences regularly, and not be afraid to dig deep into your emotions and thoughts.

Lastly, embracing vulnerability was a game changer. I used to hide behind shame and guilt, but opening up and sharing my story transformed my life and allowed me to connect with others on a deeper level. For those starting out, I encourage you to find a safe space—whether it’s a supportive community, a therapist, or even a trusted friend—where you can share your journey without fear of judgment. The more you share, the more you’ll realize you’re not alone, and that connection can be incredibly healing.

By focusing on resilience, self-awareness, and vulnerability, you’ll build a strong foundation for growth and transformation. Remember, it’s a journey, and every step forward is progress.

How would you describe your ideal client?

The SoberFitGirl client is someone who feels deeply unsettled and trapped in a cycle of negative habits. You might be feeling depressed and lost, stuck in a relentless loop of restrictive fad diets, yo-yo weight fluctuations, and weekend binges with food and alcohol. The constant struggle with endless cardio and the guilt of feeling like a ‘failure’ after eating even one cookie can be overwhelming.

If you’re experiencing destructive behavior and negative self-talk, especially after scrolling through Instagram, you’re not alone. Many of my clients have struggled with feeling tired, frustrated, and trapped in a chaotic life, using food or alcohol as a coping mechanism for stress and anxiety.

You might also find yourself procrastinating and giving up too soon because you can’t see the success just around the corner. The feelings of failure, unworthiness, and self-doubt often take over, causing you to abandon your goals prematurely.

Another common trait is working without a clear protocol or coach. If you’re unsure about when or how to train, what to eat, or how to stay motivated, you may see inconsistent results and struggle with a lack of support and understanding of how your body needs to be trained and nourished.

If you’re stuck in a cycle of binge drinking, guilt, and shame, and you find yourself using alcohol to numb sadness or anxiety but are tired of dealing with hangovers and the shame of the night before, this also resonates. Similarly, if you’re caught in the cycle of going out, spending money on food and drinks, and spending Sundays feeling shameful and guilty for not hitting the gym and wasting the weekend, you are the kind of person I aim to help.

Additionally, if you’re someone who wants to explore your relationship with alcohol, Sober Fit Girl provides a non-judgmental space where you can navigate your path towards sobriety at your own pace. You can still drink while you figure out what full sobriety means for you, and you’ll receive the support you need in a welcoming environment free from judgment.

In essence, my ideal client is someone ready to break free from these cycles and build a healthier, more fulfilling life, with the flexibility to explore their relationship with alcohol in a supportive community.
