Meet Kathy Blakeley

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathy Blakeley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation; we’ve shared it below.

Kathy, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I love to take things from the past and give them new purpose and new life as original vintage products! When I feel my creativity waning, I surround myself with inspiration in the form of my favorite pastime – thumbing through vintage magazines. There is nothing like taking a walk down memory lane to get my creative juices flowing! Whether it is building new product lines or developing new collections, the process of enjoying and absorbing content from bygone eras excites and inspires me. Everything old is new again!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Kathy Blakeley and I am the owner and designer at KB Vintage Designs. I create unique and one-of-a-kind products using a variety of graphics, most are from vintage magazines, postcards and other paper memorabilia. No two items are ever the same! I focus on the use of high-quality materials with the incorporation of 100% handcrafted techniques to produce items that not only preserve history but showcase it. I am continually inspired by my amazing customers who provide me with great content and fun ideas to develop their personal stories into custom products. Most recently, I am expanding my business to sell my unique designs not only in my online store, but in boutiques and at pop-up events. I am so excited to share my passion with others who enjoy keeping the past in the present!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey from hobbyist to business owner, the word “perseverance” stands out. My creative path began in 2010, and it took until 2018 for me to take the leap of faith and turn my passion into KB Vintage Designs. Combining woodworking, fabrication, and leatherworking skills with my love and appreciation for history, I create unique and handcrafted products. I am proud and grateful for the opportunity to share my dream with others. To aspiring entrepreneurs, I advise staying true to yourself and your vision. Create opportunities for exposure and stay the course, as success often requires perseverance, creativity, and a clear vision.

Okay, so before we go, we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love to sell my one-of-a-kind products in unique boutiques and stores that cater to customers looking for original, high quality handcrafted items! I enjoy collaborating with each individual boutique or pop-up event to create products and collections which appeal to their specific customer base. The versatility and creativity of my business allows me to personalize the product development and shopping experience. My online store will give you a sneak peek into my current inventory, so feel free to visit at www.kbvintagedesigns.com. Interested in a collaboration? You can send me an email at kbvintagedesigns@gmail.com.
