Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathy Bruins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kathy, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Giving up on something you really want to achieve is so sad. The “can do” attitude I have comes from learning that most things in life that are wanted need to be worked for and not giving up when it gets difficult to achieve it.
If you want a good grade in class, that takes studying. For most of us, that doesn’t come easily. It’s so tempting to try to find an easy way out, but most times that turns out to be harder than if the original plan was followed.
Optimism comes from what is believed. I believe God is good; he loves me and is active in my life. The hope I have from this belief allows me to go beyond what I think I can do because I know that God will make it happen if it is part of his plan; there is no one who can outdo God.
Think about who God is. He is the one who created everything, and somehow, he shows his love to people all over the world. Sometimes, he shows us love that seems like it is just for us. As long as God is in control, I don’t need to worry; just be obedient.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the founder of The Well Ministry for Creatives. It is a highly successful growing non-profit that serves God’s creatives. I believe that God has called his creatives together to make an impact on the kingdom. Our mission is to equip, network, and refresh creatives.
- At The Well Conference (Apr. 25-27, 2024), we have 10 tracks for creatives (the great thing is that you don’t have to stick to one track … you can attend any breakout session you want). The tracks are:
- Beginning Writing
- Intermediate Writing
- Speaking
- Arts
- Music
- Film/Theatre
- Comedy
- Bible Teaching
- Personal Growth
- Marketing
Each track has 7 breakouts which totals 70 breakouts. Of course you can’t take them all, but we do record them for purchase.
We also have 4 Preconference Sessions on Thursday afternoon (each 3 hours).
Want to share your gift? There is Celebration of the Arts. Each person has 5-10 minutes to share their gift and receive encouragement from your peers.
Keynote speakers are Linda Evans Shepherd (Director of AWSA) and Torry Martin (Actor, Screenplay Writer, and Comedian).

Another exciting thing that I have been a part of is a new book Essential Keys to Marital Success; Short & Sweet Inspirations, that I wrote with Osaro Edosa Ogbewe. It is a tool for all couple relationships to deepen and enrich their life together. Each chapter is short and easy to apply to everyday life. The goal is to strengthen marriages to last. This would make a great gift for couples engaged, thinking about marriage, or married for years.
You can purchase the book on Amazon or contact me for purchase information.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I always say that communication is an art we all need to keep working on. No matter what a person works at in their life, communication with the people they network with is essential. It’s important not to play the role of the Lone Ranger but to connect with people whom you can help and can help you.
Never think that you know it all. That’s the sign that you are done learning new things and your business will stagnate. The world is changing, especially in technology, and it is important to keep up with it to stay in business and be a viable asset to customers. Never stop learning. Be teachable.
Be a servant leader. Always be ready to help another person out if they are a follower of you. Establish boundaries of course, but think of those who have helped you grow. Paying it forward is a beautiful way to celebrate that.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Any creative who needs help. If they are beginning in their journey of living out the gift God has given them, I want to help them, and I believe The Well can do that. Too many creatives feel alone and misunderstood. The community of The Well will give them an experience with like-minded individuals. The connections made have been inspirational.
The other clients I love to help are writers who are looking to get published. The Well Publishers is a hybrid business where we walk with writers to publication. We work together on the process and discover what their manuscript needs to make it excellent. We have a wide assortment of resources/professionals to help them get published.
