Meet Kathy Chester

We were lucky to catch up with Kathy Chester recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kathy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

As a owner of a fitness studio and fitness trainer, i saw a big void in the autoimmune disease community. Providing fitness programs to the for those affected by autoimmune diseases became my purpose.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in the late 90’s, soon after that Multiple Sclerosis and then 5 years ago with Epilepsy. Being diagnosed with these diseases made me focus on learning my body and how important movement and fitness was to keeping myself healthy. This lead me to wanting to share my knowledge with others, thus birthing MSDisrupted which is an online community focused on fitness, health and wellness. Additionally, I host a podcast called Move it or Lose it – Podcast where I interview patients, doctors, experts, companies and innovators relating to the autoimmune community. You can find out more about MSdisrupted at www.msdisrupted.com or @msdisrupted on your favorite social media platform. You can find the Move it or Lose it – Podcast – on Apple, Stitcher, Youtube or wherever you find your podcasts.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My first is the area of knowledge and understanding human body, anatomy and physiology.
My second would be a quality which is empathy and understand people with illness’s, injury’s and traumas.
My third would be a skill. Learning to run a podcast and interview so many people with diverse backgrounds honed in my public speaking skills..
My advice would be to to slow down, find joy, try something new that you have never done before and surround yourself with people that are positive and have a sense of humor to walk in this journey with you.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

Someone that is focused on wanting to make strides to better themselves and much or more that I do.
