Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathy Huynh Cabico. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kathy , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through consistently showing up and doing the work, even when it felt scary and uncomfortable. When I first started my business, I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t have any prior business experience or funding. I also didn’t have a mentor or coach, so I had to figure everything out from scratch. Everything was boot strapped and I made it work with what I had or could afford. I jumped in with both feet and trusted that if I kept going, eventually I’ll figure it out. Along the way, I had to take a lot of detours, tried different things to see what worked and what didn’t. There were times when I wanted to quit because I wasn’t getting the results quick enough, but my resiliency kept me going and I built my self-esteem as a byproduct. Taking small steps toward your goals every day, and learning from your experiences is the fastest way to develop your confidence.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Kathy Huynh Cabico and I am the owner and Master makeup artist of Kathy Huynh Artistry and owner of recently launched lash line K.H.A Lashes. I am also a coach for makeup artists who are looking to grow and scale their business in the bridal industry. I wear many hats, but the one that I am most proud of is being a mom to my 3yr old daughter. As with any new mom, I am learning to navigate work life balance as well as overcoming mom guilt.
I am passionate in helping women look and feel their personal best, especially on their wedding day. I have built a dream team of various artists who are just as talented and passionate in working with everyday women. Together, we serve brides and their families across 5 counties in California.
Over the past ten years, I have managed to build a bridal beauty brand that has become well-known in Southern California for our personalized service and excellent client experience. Our team is highly sought after and we have over 130 perfect, five star reviews on Yelp!
Through my trials and errors, successes and detours, I have gained invaluable knowledge that I am passionate sharing with others. I created a coaching program, Art of Bridal Business in 2019, to help other aspiring artists market their talents, book clients and create an unforgettable experience, so that they have raving fans! I am in the process of re-launching Art of Bridal Business 2.0 that will include a component of mindset work. I believe this inner work is necessary to attract your dream clients effortlessly. It is the foundation to all of the marketing and business strategies.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I would say 3 qualities/skills that are really important to have are:
1) Resilience – If you are in this for the long run, you will need resilience and grit. Building the necessary skills and mastering your crafts will take time. You wont see results right away and that can feel discouraging when you try to compare your progress to others in the industry. Resilience means you are willing to show up, even when you DON”T see results… yet. It’s about showing up for your dreams and keeping a laser focus on your goals no matter what.
2) Self-Awareness- The hardest, but most impactful work you’ll do in this lifetime is working on you. Having self-awareness is required for your self-development journey. There are subconscious blocks that stem from limiting beliefs that you might not be aware of. It is these beliefs that are preventing you from making more money and attracting your dream clients. When you become aware and rewire your subconscious for success, you are open to receive abundance and opportunities that you couldn’t think of. The growth of your business is dependent on your personal growth.
3) Show up to Serve Mentality- When you build your business from a place of service to others, you’ll be compensated abundantly. People want to feel heard, appreciated and valued. When you show up from this place, clients can feel your energy and it will be what separates your brand/business from the thousands who are doing the same thing. People will hire and refer your services, not because of what you did, but how you made them feel.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest area of growth in the past year was my spiritual growth. After having my daughter, I was struggling with holding onto my old identity as a business owner who worked all the time and was in control of my life/career. I was a busy bee and I loved it. I thrived on being in motion all the time. However, once I became a mom, that all changed in an instant. I was handed a new reality that I wasn’t prepared for. I had to rediscover myself and the new identity I wanted to hold.
This “rebirth” brought me down the path of spirituality and self-awareness. Quiet nights when I stayed up to nurse my daughter gave me time for introspection. And in the stillness, I discovered better, more expansive version of myself and a different way of doing things. I found a more effortless way of growing my business that is centered in identity, trust and faith. Because of my spiritual growth, my business also grew exponentially and continues to thrive!
