Meet kathy phipps

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathy Phipps. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kathy, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resiliency comes from my Faith in God and confession that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour. Through Christ I have been able to overcome homelessness, despair, suicidal ideation when my ex-husband took the kids and hid them from me. Jesus took the worst thing that has happened to me and changed it to my purpose. So, I persevere knowing that I can help or maybe prevent the things that happen to me from happening to somebody else. I have His wind in my back pushing me forward and even when it feels like I’m being delayed he reminds me it’s just a time of ” REST”! My Faith has renewed my perspective and developed me to have a stronger resiliency.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I founded Back to Eden Fellow Program in 2017 and we have grown tremendously with programs and services. Back to Eden has 2 office locations and 2 satellite offices one to include in Beaumont Texas. We provide services to victims of domestic and sexual violence with case management, assistance filing protective orders, crime victims’ compensation, furniture, some financial assistance, support groups and crisis coaching. We are working on expanding services to provide a food pantry, transitional housing program and a group home.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back my Faith, genuineness and humbleness are the 3 qualities that were the most impactful to my journey. These qualities helped me to stay grounded and empathetic to the community and the clients that we serve.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are looking for other nonprofits to connect with that have aligned missions to seek grants and procure contracts. I can be reached at the office 713 239-0356 or by email [email protected]
