Meet Katia Hayes

We were lucky to catch up with Katia Hayes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Katia, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I think that’s the toughest one for anybody. There is no criteria for when you are finally enough. It goes hand in hand with confidence and self-esteem but even then, I constantly check in with myself and remind myself that “imposter syndrome” is just a thought in my mind and doesn’t have much to do with reality. It’s not a constructive question to be asking yourself, because the answer is very subjective, to me, to you, to anyone else. We are conditioned to compare ourselves to other, I make a conscious effort to solemnly direct that comparison within. Am I different than a year ago? How different am I then myself 5 years ago? At the end of the day you just have to be bold and confident. The good news, confidence, you can train, like a muscle and fake it till you make it really applies to confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Enigma Coffee is a brand I started with my partner. Grew to be more than just a coffee company and a roaster. A Coffee Roaster and a Brand that motivates our customers to lead a more fulfilled, successful and joyful life, where they define what Success means for them. What is unique about Enigma Coffee?

What if I tell we knew nothing about coffee, let alone specialty, when we first started? Speaking of an imposter syndrome. We took the profit from our first business venture Enigma Escape Rooms and opened our first coffee shop in 2017. We learnt everything from scratch, started manufacturing our special house made syrups, unique special to Enigma drinks, in the middle of the pandemic we took a roasting course, purchased our first roaster and obtained SCA certification, highest certification in the coffee roasting game.

We roast in smaller batches, preserving the highest standards of our beans and Uber consistent flavor profiles.

We position ourselves not solemnly in the realm of high quality coffee but also a lifestyle brand. We focus on fulfillment, self growth, success, reaching your higher potential.

Our new venture is a logical continuation of this principle and approach – a YouTube channel “Enigma of Success” which is quickly gaining momentum and we are super humbled by that. Our third interview is to be released September 13. In the series we explore the meaning of success, the unique paths of our guests and what we all can learn from those journeys, and of course, there is coffee making and believe boosters as a bonus.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
There are a lot of things but it boils down to something very simple: 1. Don’t stop (doesn’t matter how hard it gets, keep going, you only succeed if you continue moving towards your goal)
2. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it. If you have a true conviction, doesn’t matter how knowledgeable someone else is, your Path is unique. If someone failed before you doing the same thing doesn’t mean you will fail.
3. Remember, the journey is the most important. That you will appreciate with time;) Success is often a moment in time, the warm recollections come from remembering the tough times, the obstacles and overcoming those, the firsts: first customer, first sale, first success, first validation. Enjoy the journey.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
On “Enigma of Success’ we are looking to speak with interesting people from all walks of life. If you have suggestions, they don’t have to be famous, we are looking for interesting, impactful life stories, please send us a DM on instagram @enigmaofsuccess
