We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Ames a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Katie with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Luckily I have a team around me and they are very bossy and don’t let me slack off. As they work hard it inspires me to stay focused and they give me plenty to keep me busy.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We created a platform for online challenges! Whether you are participating in workout challenges, bachelorette party, creating retail challenges or rewards programs, we would love to create a digital game for you.
Many businesses are still hosting these on paper or sometimes over email, and they are so overwhelmed by keeping track of the data coming in. By hosting the same event digitally, people can check in, take pictures, etc. as they complete tasks and all of the information is very easy to process.
How it works (For a user)
1. Select a game
2. Complete a task (in real life)
3. Check off your progress
How it works (For a business)
1. Reach out to us with your challenge – we’ll upload it
2. Check your engagement to see what tasks have been most popular
3. Gain valuable insights about your customers
We have a functional product but are in the early stages! If this is a product category you regularly partake in, we’d love to discuss (or even collaborate) to ensure we build it out in a way that meets your needs.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having community Finding great people
Being a jack of all trades
Having community
For me, having great people around me is always so helpful! I can ask business questions from friends when I need, get perspective on problems I’m facing
Some “people” in my community are just other social media accounts, but they can highlight great products, services that are free / discounted for small businesses, as well as other great info. I have been able to keep my expenses very low from learning about opportunities available to small businesses.
Hiring great people
It is a process. I feel better and more confident each time I’ve hired someone for a project. But having great people around (as mentioned before) and feeling confident in my decisions has been key.
Being a jack of all trades
While being a ‘jack of all trades’ is often used in a derogatory light currently, but in the original phrase it was seen as a positive.
“Jack of all trades, but master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
For me, being able to dabble in a lot of different fields has been very helpful. I can communicate effectively with software developers, handle marketing / PR, and work through the various tasks that pop up.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We’d love to host your challenges! Whether you’re hosting a workout challenge, scavenger hunt or something similar, our fully functional platform allows you to connect with your customers in new and innovative ways.
Our ideal group to collab with would be currently doing hosting similar events on paper or email. These could be challenges, retail rewards programs, discount programs, bachelorette parties, scavenger hunts, or something else!
We would love to connect with companies of various sizes, so whether you are a large company or solo-prenuer, we want to create a service that is specifically tailored to fit your needs.
