Meet Katie Chavez

We were lucky to catch up with Katie Chavez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Katie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Purpose has to include what fulfills you. It has to be part of a bigger picture too or something that might constitute leaving a legacy to impact the future.
Purpose is nothing to over think, there are many ways a person can find and fulfill A purpose Your specific purpose however, comes in knowing yourself on a deep authentic level.
It’s common to live our lives in accordance to how we want others to see us. I want to be a good person, have people like me, be accepted by my peers, but we have to be careful that we aren’t crossing over into living for others and not ourselves.
Taking others thoughts about you and what you do out of the picture, what would you like to do? What do you already enjoy? What makes you happy? What makes you feel fulfilled and gives you a sense of accomplishment?
I use my life experience and my personal story as an avenue to fulfill a purpose. I always knew I wanted to help people, I also knew I didn’t want to help people via counseling or therapy.
So when I discovered Life Coaching, I knew this was the means I wanted to use to help people go from good to great- or help my clients take their future into their own hands.
Each of our stories are unique to us; no one has or ever will have your exact story. Similar experiences yes, there are lots of women who have had an abortion just like me. But my purpose is so help women walk through their experience without dragging on the effects of post abortion stress syndrome so they can get on to creating and living an abundant life of their choosing. This makes me so happy and I could do this work forever. I feel very fulfilled and bold in the message I share.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My brand is all about feeling excited about life again. Abortion robs us of feeling hopeful about our future because we think we’ve done something that will now negatively impact the rest of our lives. This is just not true.
When we decide to change our thinking today through coaching, we are the ones doing the work of creating our future. How our future turns out is not dependent on external circumstances. It is entirely dependent on you.
My brand is also about contribution. When we are our healed, whole, best selves, we are empowered to give back. In fact, when we feel so good about ourselves it is a natural response to want to give back in a way so others can experience this goodness too.
When we are healed and whole after an abortion experience, we can boldly share our story in an effort to help others. The value we have in sharing our stories is something many post abortive women don’t realize. How important it is that we hear their story. Not only for their own benefit, but for the future of other women’s as well.
The nuts and bolts of my business at the moment include networking and making connections with pregnancy resource centers, other service providers for pregnancy loss, I volunteer with a few non profit organizations and offer free group studies throughout the year.
I record a podcast episode each week on Abundant After Abortion as well as put out valuable content on my social media platforms.
I work with my clients in a one to one capacity meeting weekly over the span of three months and I also offer a membership subscription for my clients who want a little more of a group container to work in.
Perhaps a book is in my future and speaking engagements. I have yet to speak anywhere yet but would be so excited to share my story and what I’m all about at Abundant After Abortion with audiences everywhere.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Do the thing that scares you. Talking about my abortion was so huge for me but probably one of the most transformative personal experiences I’ve had. At first I didn’t want to, but so much has come out of me sharing my story since October of 2020. The people I’ve met and conversations I’ve had give me no doubt that this is the work I am to be doing. And I love it.
My husband calls an imperative skill of entrepreneurs “eternal optimism”. I think a lot of successful entrepreneurs talk about never giving up and to keep on trying. You have to see everything through the lens of “it’s working” even when all signs would say it’s not. When you choose to see and believe that what you’re doing is working out for your success, it forces you to see challenges as a good thing rather than bad or undesirable. It’s truly an art to practice eternal optimism in all things business.
Lastly never stop investing in yourself. At the beginning, you have to be willing to put more money in than you’re getting out. You have to let the actions you’re taking (even when they aren’t producing the results you want) compound over time so they can add up and one day spill over. Because one way they will. Hire a mentor, hire a business coach, don’t do it alone.
If you’re early on in your journey, don’t overlook self care. I used to get up and go go go everyday. Over the years I learned that I need to take time in the morning to see how I’m feeling and listen to myself. I used to ignore that and just be task oriented. I felt guilty if I wasn’t filling my time doing busy work. But I was ignoring my emotions and not listening to my personal needs. It’s never going to work if it’s all grind and no personal growth. Mindset really is huge. I have really enjoyed Joe Dispenza’s work for this.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I need to get in front of more people period. Hashtags aren’t it. I can do all the work from my desk and social media accounts in the world, but if people aren’t seeing it, it’s all for not.
I do host interviews on my podcast; if you have a story to share about abortion we should connect. I am very neutral and not here to tell anyone what to think about abortion. My focus is first and foremost on women who have already HAD an abortion and their healing afterward. What’s done is done no matter what side of the conversation you’re on.
I provide coaching for post abortive women, so audiences that include pregnancy loss, mom circles, post partum care, pregnancy resource centers, platforms to speak on, other podcasts to interview on, I am looking for any opportunity to get in front of more people that I can. even sharing my podcast is an easy way to generally share what I have to offer with people. From there they can get plugged into my email list, follow my social media, download my freebie, sign up for my webinars, and reach out for a consultation.
