Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Moyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katie , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
As a child of the 80s I grew up in a world where a woman’s self worth was defined by how you compared to MTV celebrities and Hollywood stars. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20s that I realized those people were miserable, empty, and their self worth was a fabrication.
I started doing things based on my own needs, and following paths that felt “right” including working toward legalizing hemp and fighting big government on many levels.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Our company was founded in 2016, but we started producing hemp with local farmers in 2014. Our first product was a salve made with hemp roots because there was no processing for hemp in the U.S. at the time and I wanted to make products, so the roots were available from our first hemp fiber crop in 2014.
We started tinkering with the roots and quickly learned that it helped people with pain and inflammation for muscle, nerve, and joint damage. After several months of using olive and coconut oils as a base for the hemp roots, I was determined to make my own hemp seed oil, and invested in a cold-press to crush the seeds for our own fresh-squeezed, Kentucky grown, hemp seed oil.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Stubbornness often looks like determination, perseverance, and strength. But for me, I just wanted to win! So when I set my mind on legalizing hemp in Kentucky I spent five solid years educating, networking, and lobbying anyone in Kentucky who would listen.
Self-reliance is a big factor in why I got involved with hemp. I didn’t want the govt’s help, and I didn’t want them in my business. And that philosophy extended to farmers, so I felt that they should be allowed to grow whatever they wanted, as long as they weren’t hurting anyone.
I studied grassroots lobbying with some of the most dedicated citizen watchdogs in Kentucky. Thanks to their education and guidance, I was able to use those skills to help legalize hemp in Kentucky, and eventually in D.C. as well.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Gatewood Galbraith’s “The Last Free Man in America” is required reading for anyone who feels like their life is dictated by the news, celebrities, and the economy. It details his life story, but more importantly the philosophy of becoming “ungovernable” and living life with the risks and rewards of personal freedom and Liberty.
