Meet Katie Peeples

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Peeples. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Katie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I’m not sure whether I found my purpose or my purpose found me. I’m now a Pediatric Chiropractor but I originally wanted to use my knowledge of anatomy and physiology to help solve crimes. In 2013, I started a Masters of Science in Forensic Anthropology but after a debilitating bout of low back pain, I stumbled upon Chiropractic.

I loved that Chiropractic took a holistic approach to health and didn’t rely on medications to help people feel better. As a chiropractor, I get to help people reconnect with their bodies and learn how to use them in the most efficient way possible. We’re not masking pain we’re preventing it.

I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2018 and moved to Tampa to work at a personal injury practice. I really enjoyed getting to introduce what I do to people who might not have seen a chiropractor otherwise but I was getting burnt out dealing with lawyers and insurance. When COVID hit, I decided to move back to my hometown and open up my own practice.

In 2023, I met an IBCLC who deepened my purpose. I had recently opened Achieve Chiropractic Care. She needed a chiropractor that was willing to work with infants. I didn’t have much experience but I was willing to learn. Working with infants and new parents has been more rewarding that I ever could’ve imagined.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m really excited about some of the big changes Achieve Chiropractic Care has gone through in the last few months. We recently moved locations and we’re currently going through a rebrand!

I originally opened my practice with the mission of helping anyone achieve their health and wellness goals. I had additional training to treat pregnant women, not something a lot of other local chiropractors offered. I was introduced to the local birth worker community and an IBCLC reached out to see if I was willing to offer bodywork for infants. I hadn’t done much but I was willing to learn.

We started offering co-treating sessions together. 2 professionals, 1 appointment. The IBCLC guides a breastfeeding session while I provide bodywork for the baby. We often see immediate changes with baby’s latch during that first session. Being able to use my hands to give babies (and parents) relief from torticollis, tongue & lip ties, constipation, excessive gas or spit up, extreme tension, and more has been so rewarding. I’ve continued expanding my education, most recently adding Craniosacral Therapy for infants.

As this side of my practice has grown, I realized my business needed to make some changes. This June, we moved locations and now share the building with the IBCLC. Our new space is more family-friendly. Patients love that it feels less like a clinic and more like a cozy living room. We’re currently in the process of rebranding our logo and website to match this more family-oriented vibe. We’re so excited to share all of these new changes with you!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey have been curiosity, determination, and collaboration.

As Albert Einstein once said, “I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious”. A curious mind is an open mind. I’ve always had a curious mind, questioning how and why things work. This has served me well in my profession. I’m not just diagnosing you with back pain, I work to figure out why you’re having back pain so we can prevent it. I want to spark that curiosity in my patients and empower them to take control of their health.

When I first decided to open Achieve Chiropractic Care, plenty of people had opinions on how I should structure my practice. I was told that I’d never survive if I didn’t take insurance or work with lawyers to get personal injury clients. While those practice models can be successful, it didn’t fit the vision I had for Achieve. I knew it would be harder to get my business off the ground but I wanted to provide care that wasn’t dictated by a lawyer or insurance agent. I was determined to provide a different kind of healthcare. True healthcare, where we don’t just focus on getting over sickness or minimizing symptoms, we work on building health.

I’m a big believer in collaboration over competition. Chiropractic can do a lot but it can’t do everything. I’ve built a network of trusted healthcare professionals that I can refer to when something is outside of my scope. This attitude has served me well and I’ve been able to build a successful business without taking insurance, dealing with lawyers, or paying for advertising. Most of my new patients are referrals from other healthcare professionals: lactation consultants, physical therapists, medical doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pediatric dentists, even other chiropractors.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

I think the most impactful thing my parents have done for me is to just lead by example. According to my dad, “I picked my parents well.”

My dad is a retired elementary school teacher and he was always encouraging us to ask questions, feeding our curiosity. Over our summer breaks, he’d drive us all over the country where we’d spend weeks camping in national parks and visiting historical sites. We didn’t just learn about history and nature, we got to experience it. It used to drive me nuts that he’d always answer a question with a question, trying to get me to tease out the answer on my own. As an adult, I can appreciate that he was helping to feed my curiosity and build my critical thinking skills.

My mom is a Certified Public Accountant and she owns her own business. She actually bought her building while she was pregnant with me and I got to grow up watching her build a thriving practice. She taught me that no one will be as invested in my business as I am, that giving back to the community will help build you grow personally and professionally, and that all of this is for nothing if you don’t have time to spend with your family. Achieve Chiropractic Care recently moved into that building that my mom bought all of those years ago. I now get to help families in the space I grew up in!
