Meet Katie Sorensen, NP-C

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katie Sorensen, NP-C a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My purpose was shaped by years of seeing how deeply health impacts every part of a person’s life- not just physically, but emotionally and socially too. As a nurse practitioner, I’ve witnessed how many diseases that limit people’s quality of life and healthspan are rooted in metabolic dysfunction. Helping patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight range isn’t just about appearance or a number on the scale; it’s about preventing long-term disease, improving vitality, and giving people back the energy and confidence to live fully.

I created Weight Loss NP to be different from the traditional medical model. We are a place where people feel seen, listened to, supported, and genuinely guided through their wellness journey. Every success story reminds us that sustainable weight loss is often a turning point for better health, longer life, and greater self-belief. Our purpose comes from empowering people to reclaim that vitality, to realize they can truly change their health trajectory, and to feel better than they thought possible!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At Weight Loss NP, we help people improve their health, confidence, and longevity through evidence-based medical weight management, hormone, and wellness care. I started this practice to provide a compassionate, personalized and positive approach to weight loss that sticks. Our mission is to address the root causes of weight struggles and help people create lifelong health habits that fit their real lives.

What makes Weight Loss NP special is our whole-person and individualized care. We offer a personalized approach from our small, local practice. We develop long-term relationships with our clients which leads to truly impactful care. This year, we expanded our team by adding a hormone specialist nurse practitioner so we can now offer both men’s testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and women’s hormone replacement therapy (HRT). These services help our patients balance their hormones, improve energy and focus, and support long-term metabolic health. Hormone health and weight loss go hand and hand and we are proud to offer a whole-picture solution for our clients.

From our years of experience, we know when people feel better in their bodies, they show up better for their families, careers, and communities, and are empowered to live the life they deserve. Seeing the impact of our clients success ripple outward is so rewarding! At Weight Loss NP, we see ourselves as advocates and change makers for whole-person health.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, empathy, and continual learning. Building a practice from the ground up takes determination and a willingness to adapt when things don’t go as planned. Resilience helps me stay steady through the inevitable ups and downs of business ownership.

Empathy is a core feature of mine as a nurse practitioner and a value that has built and continues to guide everything we do at Weight Loss NP. Every patient’s journey is different has shaped how we deliver care – with compassion, patience, and respect. It’s what turns medical treatment into true transformational partnership.

Lastly, a commitment to lifelong learning has allowed me to stay current with evolving research in obesity medicine, hormones, and metabolic health. This field changes quickly, and staying curious ensures that our patients always receive the most effective, evidence-based care.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to lead with purpose and keep learning. Invest in your education, find mentors who inspire you, and don’t be afraid to start!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

We especially enjoy opportunities to educate and speak to groups about topics like health and nutrition, GLP-1 medications, weight loss, hormone balance, and practical ways to improve the health span. This year, we’ve collaborated with the City and County of Denver, a corporate wellness program, community meetups, and have been a guest on several podcasts to share evidence-based information in a relatable way. We’d love to continue creating more opportunities to educate, connect, and work toward improving the health of our community.
