Meet Katie Star

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katie Star. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Katie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Finding my purpose has been a remarkable journey shaped by my early passion for music, my family’s deep-rooted musical heritage, and a transformative experience that ultimately led to the development of the Vocal Tapping Method. Born into a musical family with generations of artists, I was exposed to the beauty of music from a young age. Singing became my ultimate passion, and I eagerly took lessons, participated in choirs, and explored theater, piano, and voice. By the time I was just 16, I was offered a teaching position at a local music store in Keller, Texas, where I had the privilege of working with the talented young singers Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. Watching their growth fueled my desire to help artists discover and develop their unique voices.

After years of nurturing my passion, I took a leap of faith and opened my own storefront, creating a space where singers could explore their voices and grow as individual artists. As I settled into my role as a vocal coach, I envisioned something bigger—a way to reach more students and share my insights on vocal development. Fate intervened when I had the opportunity to expand my studio to the vibrant Dallas Arts District, a move that surrounded me with creativity and inspiration. It was here that I felt invigorated and ready to take my teaching to the next level.

However, my journey took an unexpected turn when I contracted COVID-19. The experience was both challenging and enlightening, forcing me to confront the potential impact on my voice and my identity as a singer. During my recovery, I realized how crucial my voice was to my sense of self. This period of reflection led me to explore new techniques for vocal improvement, and it was during this time that I discovered the Vocal Tapping Method.

Intrigued by the idea of using human touch to enhance vocal performance, I began to research and experiment with this method. Over the next three years, I conducted extensive research and testing with students worldwide, ultimately developing a scientifically proven approach that allowed singers to harness the power of touch in their vocal practice. The Vocal Tapping Method teaches singers to engage with the body’s kinetic energy, helping them navigate the complexities of vocal placement through tactile sensations.

This method is accessible to singers of all ages and skill levels, empowering them to easily sing on pitch, master seamless register transitions, and enhance the power and clarity in their voices. With the Vocal Meridian Chart, which maps the voice and defines the placement of each note, singers can visualize their vocal pathways and unlock their full potential.

The method also addresses common challenges faced by singers, such as achieving perfect pitch and transitioning between vocal registers. By tapping on the 24 vocal meridians, singers can find the right place for each note, ensuring a smooth performance regardless of the melody’s range. The Vocal Tapping Method has become a comprehensive approach that harmonizes the body’s energy flow, reduces physical and emotional tension, and optimizes the physiological processes essential for effective vocal performance.

Through the creation of this method, I have found my purpose not only in developing my own voice but also in empowering others to discover theirs. As I continue to teach and share this knowledge, I am passionate about guiding fellow singers on their journeys, helping them unlock their unique vocal abilities. My family’s legacy of music flows through me, and with the Vocal Tapping Method, I strive to honor that heritage while making a meaningful impact on the lives of aspiring artists. In this way, I have found fulfillment in a career that aligns with my deepest passions and allows me to inspire others to find their voices in the world.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m excited to share my story and the vision behind my brand, which focuses on vocal coaching and the groundbreaking Vocal Tapping Method. As I grew, I became increasingly aware of the profound impact that music can have on individuals and communities.

What truly sets my brand apart is the unique approach I take in vocal coaching. The Vocal Tapping Method is a culmination of years of experience, research, and a desire to create a more accessible and effective way for singers to develop their skills. This innovative technique emphasizes the connection between touch and vocal performance, allowing singers to explore their voices in a way that is both intuitive and scientifically grounded. This method not only helps singers refine their abilities but also encourages them to build a deeper connection with their craft.

A particularly exciting aspect of my work is the opportunity to witness the transformative journeys of my students. I am constantly inspired by their growth and the breakthroughs they achieve as they embrace their unique vocal identities. Each session is an opportunity for exploration, creativity, and self-discovery, and I cherish the moments when a singer realizes their potential.

Looking ahead, I am thrilled to announce the launch of new initiatives designed to expand the reach of the Vocal Tapping Method. I will be offering a series of interactive online workshops that will allow participants to engage with the method in real-time, regardless of their location. These workshops will not only provide practical vocal training but will also cultivate a sense of community among singers who are passionate about honing their craft.

Additionally, I am in the process of developing supplementary resources that will accompany the online course, including instructional videos, guided exercises, and community forums. These enhancements will support singers in their practice and enable them to connect with others who share their passion for music.

At the core of my brand is a commitment to empowering singers to find their voices and express themselves authentically. I believe that everyone has a unique sound waiting to be uncovered, and I am dedicated to providing the tools and guidance necessary to help individuals embrace their true artistic selves. I’m excited to continue this journey and look forward to sharing the joy of singing and the benefits of the Vocal Tapping Method with a broader audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as being most impactful in shaping my career: adaptability, empathy, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Each of these attributes has played a crucial role in my development as a vocal coach and in the creation of the Vocal Tapping Method.

Firstly, adaptability has been essential in navigating the ever-evolving landscape of music education and vocal training. The ability to adjust my teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of my students has allowed me to connect with a wide range of individuals. For those early in their journey, I encourage embracing flexibility. Be open to trying new techniques, exploring different styles, and adjusting your approach based on feedback. This willingness to adapt not only enhances your learning experience but also prepares you for the dynamic nature of the music industry.

Secondly, empathy is a fundamental skill that has enriched my interactions with students. Understanding their challenges, fears, and aspirations fosters a supportive environment where they feel safe to express themselves. For aspiring artists, developing empathy—both for themselves and others—can significantly enhance their artistic growth. This means recognizing that everyone has their own pace and struggles. Cultivating a compassionate mindset enables you to build meaningful connections within the artistic community and encourages collaboration over competition.

Lastly, a commitment to lifelong learning has been pivotal in my journey. The world of music is constantly evolving, and staying informed about new techniques, trends, and research is vital. For those starting out, I recommend actively seeking opportunities for growth. Attend workshops, take courses, and engage with mentors who inspire you. Being curious and open to learning will not only enhance your skills but also deepen your understanding of your craft.

By embracing these qualities, you will not only develop as an artist but also create a supportive and enriching environment for yourself and those around you. Remember, every step you take in your journey contributes to your growth, so approach each experience with an open heart and a willingness to learn.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I am actively seeking collaboration and partnership opportunities with individuals and organizations that share a passion for music education and vocal development. Specifically, I am looking for fellow vocal coaches, music educators, and artists who are interested in exploring innovative teaching methods and enhancing the vocal experience for students. Collaborating with those who have a background in music therapy, performance, or holistic approaches to vocal training could lead to exciting new insights and synergies.

I am particularly interested in working with professionals who are open-minded and willing to experiment with new techniques, such as the Vocal Tapping Method, to empower singers in their journeys. Additionally, I would love to connect with organizations that focus on arts education, community outreach, or empowerment programs for young artists, as I believe these partnerships can foster a supportive environment for aspiring musicians.

If you are interested in collaborating, please feel free to reach out to me through my website or social media channels. I welcome the opportunity to connect, share ideas, and explore how we can work together to inspire and uplift the next generation of singers.
