We were lucky to catch up with Katiria recently and have shared our conversation below.
Katiria, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
In an industry where image often seems to overshadow authenticity, staying true to yourself is not just a choice but a commitment to your artistry and identity. As a female singer and songwriter in the Latin music scene, you understand the importance of embracing your true colors, even the imperfect ones and off tones, as they are what make your voice distinct and genuine.
In a world where social media metrics and popularity often dictate success, you strive to break free from those constraints, daring to showcase the real, unfiltered version of yourself. You understand that true connection with your audience comes from being relatable and vulnerable, from sharing your highs and lows, your struggles and triumphs, in your music and your journey.

As a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, producer, and composer, I stand as a beacon of innovation and talent within the realm of Latin music. Garnering acclaim as a Tidal Rising Latin Artist in 2023, my career is a testament to my multifaceted expertise and unwavering dedication to my craft. What I find most exciting and special about my journey is the ability to seamlessly blend smooth Latin pop melodies with poignant lyricism, creating a musical experience that resonates deeply with audiences worldwide.
Hailing from the vibrant shores of Puerto Rico, my musical prowess transcends boundaries, effortlessly weaving together a tapestry of genres, including Latin Indie, Folk, Ballad, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and Pop. My latest musical endeavor, the critically acclaimed album ‘Del Cielo a la Tierra V1. Heaven,’ is a testament to my boundless creativity and versatility as an artist. Comprising 14 tracks, each infused with my unique essence, this album has garnered widespread recognition, including accolades from industry stalwarts like Billboard.
As I continue to evolve as an artist, I’m thrilled to share that the second part of my album ‘Volume 2’ is on the horizon. Building upon the success of ‘Del Cielo a la Tierra V1. Heaven,’ this next chapter promises to delve even deeper into my creative exploration, pushing boundaries and captivating audiences with new sounds and stories. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that have been most impactful are resilience, authenticity, and a continuous thirst for learning and growth.
The ability to bounce back from setbacks and challenges is crucial in the music industry, where rejection and criticism can be common. Developing resilience involves cultivating a strong sense of self-belief, maintaining a positive mindset, and embracing failures as opportunities for growth. Surrounding yourself with a supportive network of mentors, peers, and friends can also provide invaluable encouragement during tough times.
Staying true to myself and my artistic vision has been instrumental in forging meaningful connections with my audience. Authenticity resonates deeply with listeners and sets me apart from the crowd. My advice to those starting their journey is to embrace your unique voice, experiences, and perspective. Don’t be afraid to show vulnerability and imperfections, as they are what make you relatable and genuine. Trust in your authenticity and let it shine through in everything you do.
ContThe music industry is constantly evolving, so it’s essential to stay curious and adaptable. Investing in ongoing education, whether through formal training, workshops, or self-study, helps sharpen your skills and keeps you ahead of the curve. Seek out feedback from trusted mentors and peers, and be open to constructive criticism as a means of improvement. For those early in their journey, my advice is to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, stay true to yourself, and never stop learning. Cultivate resilience, authenticity, and a hunger for knowledge, and let your passion drive you forward. Remember that success is not always linear, but with dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to your craft, you can achieve your dreams in the ever-changing landscape of the music industry.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Currently, the number one obstacle I am facing is navigating the challenges of working in a male-dominated industry. It’s disheartening to encounter situations where men attempt to take advantage, whether through offering lower pay, questioning our abilities, or denying us the recognition we deserve. This pervasive inequality ignites a fire within me to strive for better, to demand equal treatment and opportunities.
To overcome this challenge, I’ve taken matters into my own hands, becoming my own producer, manager, booking agent, director and more. By learning every aspect of the industry, I empower myself to advocate for fair treatment and to ensure that my voice is heard and respected. While it’s frustrating to face such obstacles, I am proud of how far I’ve come and the resilience I’ve shown in the face of adversity. This challenge has fueled my determination to succeed and has strengthened my resolve to break down barriers for myself and future generations of female artists.
