Meet Katisha Jallow

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katisha Jallow a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

KATISHA, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Navigating spaces where I’m often the only one who looks like me has been both a challenge which became a unique strength, especially when I was in the military, practicing mental health advocacy and now in the music business, To be effective and successful in these situations, I’ve embraced three key strategies: adaptability, strategic relationship-building, and leveraging my individuality as a strength.
Adaptability allows me to read the room, adjust my approach, and connect with others in a way that feels authentic and impactful. I remember once being called “resource intensive,” which caught me off guard, but it also highlighted how my unique perspective and contributions were seen as valuable.
Strategic relationship-building is crucial; is about creating meaningful connections and understanding the dynamics in where I seem to find myself. There was a moment when I was instructed to shadow a supervisor, and after the meeting, he asked why I hadn’t asked questions or commented. I simply replied, “My shadow never speaks to me, and you said to shadow you.” It was a reminder that clear communication and setting expectations are, even when navigating new spaces.
Ultimately, I view being different as a strength, not a setback. I bring light to every room, using my smile and diverse qualities to stand out in ways that are both rare and valuable.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Katisha Jallow, a music talent agent, mental health advocate, and veteran rehabilitation specialist. Through my agency, K Luv Culture, I empower artists and other talents by connecting them with career opportunities, brand partnerships, and event/tour bookings. What excites me most is seeing people personally, professionally develop and thrive in a competitive industry. I also advocate for mental health with my organization called California Suicide Prevention Network (CALISPN) and support veterans transitioning to civilian life through supportive services with employment, education, prevention of homelessness, and creating veterans objectives that aligns within their rehabilitation plans. Currently, I’m focused on talent representation, management and collaborating with brands and clients to spotlight emerging talent to include my own skills and abilities. My mission is to make a meaningful impact across all the communities I serve.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most impactful qualities in my journey have been adaptability, strategic thinking, and relationship-building. Adaptability has helped me thrive in diverse environments; I recommend embracing change and staying open to new opportunities. Strategic thinking has allowed me to navigate challenges with purpose—focus on setting clear goals and learning from every experience. Lastly, relationship-building is key; everyone has talent and connecting authentically with others is how I help others see it within themselves. For those early in their journey, stay curious but execute the curiosity with goals, be intentional about your growth, and surround yourself with people who inspire you. Some may challenge and discourage you. However, someone will come along and say something that will inspire you.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely, I’m always looking to collaborate in three key areas:

Veterans: I’m eager to partner with organizations and individuals dedicated to supporting veterans, particularly in education, employment, and housing. Let’s work together to create pathways for veterans to thrive in civilian life.

Music: I’m seeking clients, artists, promoters, and brands who share a passion for talent development and creating unique opportunities within the music industry. Collaboration in bookings, events, and artist partnerships is at the core of what I do.

Mental Health: I’m committed to connecting with mental health advocates, professionals, and nonprofits focused on suicide prevention and community support. Let’s join forces to raise awareness and provide resources to those in need.

If you’re interested in collaborating, please reach out to me at [email protected]. I’d love to explore how we can make an impact together!
